Earth Advantage Institute is a nonprofit organization that works with the building industry to implement sustainable and energy efficient building practices. Its mission is to create an immediate, practical, and cost-effective path to sustainability and to the reduction of carbon in the built environment.

The organization achieves its objectives through an innovative range of green building and energy efficiency programs. These include certification of high performance homes, remodels, sustainable communities, and commercial spaces. Other areas of expertise cover energy disclosure & performance, building stock assessments, water conservation, and carbon foot printing and reporting.

The Institute's education department offers basic and advanced courses on building science, green marketing, and green building evaluation. A robust building science technical services team provides a variety of onsite building assessments, energy audits, and standards verification.

Position Overview:

EAI is in need of a strategic, energetic, intuitive and entrepreneurial senior level sales executive to identify and nurture national business relationships in the utility and institutional sectors. This experienced business development professional will expand and develop EAI's client base to maximize revenue opportunities for the licensee portfolio of EAI products (certification, energy labeling, and educational programs) across North America.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and entrepreneurial sales leader to roll up his or her sleeves and play a key role in an innovative not-for-profit organization in the fast-growing energy efficiency and green building industry.

Responsibilities:

  1. Research and identify target markets and client base
  2. Develop sales plans for winning new business within target segments
  3. Proactively pursue new leads to meet established goals
  4. Develop client-specific proposals to capture new business
  5. Work closely with all EAI departments to understand all products and program elements important to potential clients in the utility/energy efficiency realm.
  6. Provide executive management with regular progress updates

Qualifications:

Please have an interest in and passion for green building, energy efficiency and environmental responsibility, and a proven track record of sales and/or new business development. Ideal candidates will have the ability to confidently and comfortably communicate with clients, colleagues and vendors; to understand client needs; to set client expectations; negotiate scopes of work, and to provide status updates and effectively present results.

  • College Degree
  • Demonstrated success in the sales arena
  • 3 - 5 years prior experience in the utility/energy efficiency/green building sector
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication ability with the propensity to listen and uncover customer needs
  • Strong detail and task focus and demonstrated ability in problem solving
  • Stellar project management and time management skills
  • Ability to comfortably interface across multiple organizational levels
  • Candidate needs to enjoy working in a very fast paced team-oriented environment and have strong leadership qualities
  • Comfort with performance driven compensation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs and SalesForce.com
