The Conservation Lands Foundation is a national non-profit organization headquartered in Durango, Colorado with offices in California, Arizona, Montana and Washington, DC. The Foundation was created to ensure that the Bureau of Land Management is able to provide long-term protection for the lands and waters within the National Landscape Conservation System (also known as the National Conservation Lands). Our mission is to protect, restore and expand the National Conservation Lands (including rivers, lakes and streams) through education, advocacy, and partnerships.

Position Overview:

The Conservation Lands Foundation is seeking a River Coordinator to help build the organizational and strategic capacity of local citizen groups working to protect key rivers and riparian areas managed by BLM in the Southwest. The River Coordinator will identify threats and opportunities to protect and restore these rivers, with 75% of her/his time focused on the Dolores, Escalante and Gunnison Rivers of the Colorado River Basin and the San Pedro River in Arizona.

The successful candidate will be familiar with Western water issues and/or have significant experience working with citizens on projects to restore stream flows and riparian habitats.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years experience working on riparian issues for nonprofit, state or federal agency, or private sector.
  • Must be a self-starter and have demonstrated successful project management skills.
  • Must have a broad understanding of Western water issues and have demonstrated the ability to think and act strategically to achieve conservation goals.
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter and have a proven ability to manage multiple demands and deadlines.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment with colleagues located in other offices around the West.
  • Have excellent strategic, analytical and communication skills, ability to write and speak concisely and persuasively.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Familiarity with BLM processes a plus.
  • Experience with founding, developing or enhancing grassroots conservation organizations desirable.

The candidate does not have to live in Durango, however it is desired that they live in Western Colorado or Arizona.
