Interim Program Manager: Short Duration Programs and Field Centers

Earthwatch Institute is an international environmental organization that engages people worldwide in scientific field research and education to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment. 

Position Overview:

The Interim Program Manager for Field Centers will be responsible for ensuring that operational, fiscal, safety and program delivery requirements are met at the Field Centers (located in Brazil, China, Costa Rica, India, UK and US), on LVPs and on short duration programs in order to ensure that deliverables are met according to requirements.

Reports to: Interim Director of Field Centers

Responsibilities:  

• Short Duration Program management and implementation
• Ensuring delivery standards met at all Field Centers
• Line Management of Field Center Coordinator
• Fiscal and administrative reporting duties
• Oversight of risk management system on LVPs

Specific responsibilities include:

1. Short Duration Program management and implementation:

• Oversight of all short duration programs, including working with the Interim Director of Field Centers to implement changes of processes in conjunction with the Interim Director of Operations, and engagement of appropriate functions to deliver the best possible short duration products that meet research, engagement, risk management and funder requirements.

2. Field Center Program Implementation:

• Support Field Center operations to ensure effective program delivery, adherence to timelines and meeting of goals (including HCP completion). Support new program development and implementation
• Management of briefings process and editing of program briefing/disclosure documents
• Review all field center evaluation reports - identify trends and coordinate solutions
• Support execution of Field Delivery Team for delivery of additional programs

3. Health, Safety and Participant Management:

• Oversee organizational compliance to risk management system for HCP Local Volunteering Projects and support compliance for field centers.
• Support field management standards for field operations at Field Centers, ensuring field centers are ‘fit for purpose' through adherence to Earthwatch's risk management system and meeting program specifications.
• Participate on the Earthwatch International Incident Management Team. Actively support Field Directors and program staff in management of incidents at Field Centers.
• Participate on the contingency delivery team

4. Line Management:

• Line management of the Field Center Administrator who is responsible for health forms review for field center participants, formatting of documentation, data entry and other administrative responsibilities

5. Business Administration:

• Oversee budgets and payments for non-HCP programs at Field Centers.
• Support Field Center business plans in line with agreed milestones
• Support the Earthwatch offices with any visits to the Field Center region by staff, board, media or other interests as they may arise
• Support environmental management compliance at select Field Centers

Qualifications:

• Experience with international field-based programs
• Proven field management experience, including risk assessment and management
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team in a collegial setting as well as to work independently
• Strong management experience with budgets, teams of people, major projects and line management of staff
• Strong written and oral communications skills
• Willingness to travel up to 12 weeks per year
• Highly organized, with exceptional project and time management skills

Compensation: Salary range: $40,000 to $45,000

Position: Full-time, Fixed-Term, Temporary contract through 29 June 2012
