Position Overview:

Opportunity: 

This newly created position at the Earthwatch head office in Boston, reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), is an opportunity of a lifetime for a budding marketer interested in conservation and a fast-paced international environment.

You'll work alongside seasoned marketing and communications leadership and staff, and will be an integral member of a creative and no-nonsense team. What's more, you'll be given every opportunity to develop your creative and project management skills while helping the CMO manage the department's workflow and assisting in administrative duties.

Job Specifications: 

This position will provide direct administrative, analytic, and creative support to the CMO, and to other members of the department from time to time as directed by the CMO. The ideal candidate must be highly organized, creative, energetic and adept at maintaining a detailed schedule in a highly dynamic, international environment. This position also calls for excellent interpersonal skills, superior project coordination experience, strong business writing skills, and the ability to work well with all levels of staff and teams.

Direct Reports:

None, though may be asked to be a co-management resource for departmental interns from time to time, as appropriate in the completion of their assigned tasks and at the direction of the CMO.

Responsibilities:  

  • Assist the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) in coordinating integrated marketing and communications activities, as well as managing the day-to-day routine of the CMO's schedule and activities.
  • Prepare and execute internal/external marketing meetings called by the CMO.
  • Responsible for organizing, executing, summarizing, and managing follow up actions with staff at all levels.
  • Develop and implement project management system for documenting and tracking activities.
  • Under the direction of the Director for Scientific and Public Outreach, assist with press and brand journalism monitoring and monthly media reports to the
  • Serve as Recorder on internal "International Crisis Anticipation and Management Team" (ICMT), ensuring confidentiality and strict adherence to team Terms of Reference.
  • Execute a wide variety of fulfillment, tracking, and basic accounting details that involve direct mail, email broadcast campaigns, outbound calls, marketing trade shows and events, audience communications, and other marketing plans.
  • Assist marketing team with special projects and preparation of complex reports and documents (e.g. departmental presentations to Boards of Directors or Advisors, to visiting funders, to prospective organizational partners, etc.).
  • Collects and compiles information and market research from diverse sources, creates charts and creative presentations.
  • Assist Marketing and Design Manager with digital image selection as required.
  • Working closely with the CMO, Marketing and Design Manager, and International Director for HR, develop an internal quarterly e-publication intended to bring the Earthwatch staff together through editorials, unpublished program snippets, and education in specific areas, such as branding and staff development.
  • Assist with writing/editing/research online and/or offline projects, as well as blog monitoring, as assigned by CMO and working closely with relevant marketing team member.
  • Assist CMO in drafting annual budget documents and monitor and track expenditures, reporting back to the CMO and marketing team on a quarterly basis.
  • Manage other duties as assigned by the CMO.

  • Ability to act as an effective liaison between departmental colleagues and outside service or product providers such as printers, direct mail houses, technology consultants, graphic designers, etc.
  • Sense of humor and an outside-the-box

Qualifications:

  • Marketing, promotions, and/or communications skills and experience in a non-profit setting.
  • Strong writing skills, especially in office or HR communications, or B2B writing, or technical writing environments
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 1 to 2 year's experience in a non-profit marketing environment a plus.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially on Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work across both PC and Mac platforms and software programs
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (chiefly Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube)
  • Basic online research skills and the ability to learn new computer skills quickly

Compensation:  30-35K, commensurate with experience.  Good benefits
