Position Overview: 

The U.S. Green Building Council seeks a Director, Current Versions of LEED that will be an integral member of the LEED Department and will provide comprehensive direction and programmatic support for the current version of the LEED rating system. As a LEED Director, this professional is responsible for enhancing the LEED user experience while preserving the integrity of LEED system and adhering to the Foundations of LEED.

This seasoned professional will lead a team focused on improving the LEED user experience with implementing the LEED 2009 (and previous) commercial rating systems through process streamlining and strategic oversight for existing tools and resources. The Director, LEED Current Version will also work closely with the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) to manage requests and inquiries brought by LEED reviewers and users.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage all work related to maintaining LEED 2009 (and previous) commercial rating systems and their supporting tools and resources including LEED Online, documentation requirements, addenda, LEED Interpretations, reference guides and other technical documents, and GBCI Technical Customer Service inquiries and reviewer guidance
  • Lead the effort to streamline processes guiding the maintenance of the LEED 2009 commercial (and previous) rating system supporting tools and resources, balancing immediate user needs with maintaining system stability and predictability
  • Develop and refine formal business processes to ensure institutional knowledge and procedures are retained over time
  • Provide programmatic support and strategic guidance to project managers in devising solutions to existing programs tools and resources as well as creating new tools and resources when necessary
  • Collaborate with GBCI Certification team on the identification and prioritization of LEED reviewer and LEED user needs, balancing these with LEED Department needs
  • Provide definition, strategic prioritization and communication of LEED Department technology needs to the Technology Department, including LEED Online, database development and other supporting tools
  • Work closely with the Director in charge of LEED 2012 to ensure all LEED submittals are simple and appropriate in their documentation requirements while upholding technical rigor and protecting the integrity of LEED
  • Develop sound project plans to assure the achievement of objectives, determining the length and complexity of tasks, processes and projects
  • Monitor project or process timetables, milestones and deliverables ensuring timely and accurate completion as needed
  • Lead development and implementation of annual program budget and business plan for related work
  • Prepare program and financial progress reports as needed

Qualifications:

Education Requirements/Preferences:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a related building industry, or environmental discipline; Master's degree preferred
  • LEED Accredited Professional status

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years professional experience related to the green design, construction, operations and upgrades of commercial buildings
  • Technical understanding of and experience achieving compliance with the LEED 2009 and previous versions of the commercial rating systems, specifically LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance, New Construction, Core and Shell, Schools and Commercial Interiors
  • Knowledge of and experience working with LEED projects, both as project LEED AP and through documenting compliance in LEED Online for at least 20 LEED projects
  • Experience in all LEED project phases, from early visioning to completion of LEED certification
  • Minimum 5 years management experience including work plan and budget preparation
