Promoting the wise use of energy and natural resources in a carbon constrained world, Earth Advantage Institute (EAI) is a leading organization providing green building and climate solutions for clients in the built environment. EAI, an Oregon 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, certifies new and remodeled homes as a third party verifier for the ENERGY STAR® and LEED for Homes® programs, as well as for its own residential, community, and commercial programs.
In addition, EAI provides green design and consulting services, conducts education and training seminars, and is a key contributor to the development of green building standards. The organization includes over 400 builders, remodelers, and sponsors throughout the country.
To drive this mission, EAI has an immediate need to hire a professional and experienced person to fulfill the grant writing and RFP proposals duties for our non profit organization.

Position Overview:
Earth Advantage Institute's high expectation and entrepreneurial executive director needs an experienced, intuitive, neat, eloquent, detail oriented, fast paced, RFP winning technical writer. We expect that 50% of the time will be dedicated to RFP application activities while the remainder will focus on proposals, grant submissions and technical papers.
Essential job functions will include drafting and preparing RFP proposals and technical reports, developing a long term RFP selection and management strategy, conducting foundation research and creation of a grant application calendar based on needs of organization, managing data gathering, managing collaboration with partner organizations, proposal writing, and submission process, administering RFP/grant tracking and reporting, managing and tracking the secured RFP/grant budget, participating in on site strategic development and resource team planning session for each RFP as necessary. Responsibilities:
- Draft and prepare RFP and grant proposals and technical reports
- Develop long term RFP/grant management strategy
- Conduct foundation research and create grant application calendar based on needs of organization
- Manage data gathering, RFP partner coordination, proposal writing and submission process
- Administer grant tracking and reporting
- Manage and track the secured grant budget
- Participate in strategic, development, and resource team planning
Qualifications:
Review and Selection:
Respondents must make proper and timely submissions to be considered. Failure to meet any requirement set forth or to provide the complete information required will disqualify the respondent from consideration for this position. All respondents will be rated according to competitive selection criteria described as follows:
- Prior RFP/grant writing experience
- Prior success in obtaining or securing grants/RFPs (must show examples)
- Subject matter/field proficiency in sustainability/energy efficiency
- Writing style (writing samples strongly encouraged)
- Credible references
Candidate must:
- Have 3 to 5 years of experience in RFP and/or grant writing, proposal writing, and preparation of technical papers
- Exhibit excellent written communication, grammar and editing skills
- Be a self starter with a comfort at working independently
- Have superior PC/MS Office skills
- Handle fast paced activities and have no problem with multi tasking
- Be comfortable at taking outlines of concepts and developing draft documents for management review
- Write and communicate extremely well, with a proficiency at handling technical subject matter
- Experienced at setting and achieving goals and targets
Primary Qualifications:
- Please have an interest in and passion for green building, energy efficiency, and environmental responsibility
- 3 to 5 years of experience in managing grant and RFP proposal writing
- Similar experience in a non profit environment desirable
- BA/BS degree or equivalent experience in grant writing and resource development
