Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) offers a wide variety of programs including university studies, options for degree completion, certificate and diploma programs and trade programs. Instruction is based on campuses in two communities in northwestern Alberta: the City of Grande Prairie and the Town of Fairview. 

Position Overview:

The Pollutants-to-Products (P2P) research team at Grande Prairie Regional College is looking for an energetic applied Research Coordinator/Applied Scientist with specialization in either microbiology, botany or forest biology. This exciting new P2P initiative explores applied science and technologies in turning pollutants to useful products using biological agents such as trees and microalgae. It is currently funded through a grant from Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and industry partners.

The primary purposes of this position are to conduct/lead implementation activities of research projects, to assist coordination of projects, and/or to pursue future research development opportunities, depending on the experience and qualification of the candidate.

This will be a term certain position, available immediately, until December 15, 2015, with possibility of renewal.

Qualifications:

  • Master or PhD in a related field (eg. microbiology, botany or forest biology)
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience; new grads with good skills and attitude will be also considered.
  • A valid Driver's License/able to travel
  • Valuable assets: supervisory and administrative experiences, experience in industrial networking and applied research, technology development and commercialization experience

Special Skills & Knowledge:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • A range of lab, analytical and computer skills
  • Knowledge of research protocols

Compensation: This full-time, term-certain (5-year) position will commence as soon as possible and end December 15, 2015, with possibility of renewal. Grande Prairie Regional College offers an attractive benefits and remuneration package.
