Description

The Solar Rating and Certification Corporation currently administers a certification, rating, and labeling program for solar collectors and a similar program for domestic solar water heating systems.

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Technical Director will report directly to the Technical Director of SRCC and have the following responsibilities/duties:

  • Conduct inspections of solar collector factories and installed solar water heating systems
  • Attend technical meetings, both SRCC and other organizations
  • Research issues related to certification requirements, incentive program requirements and constraints, solar water heating system design, solar collector design
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with ISO Guide 65 accreditation
  • Final authorization for publication of certifications
  • Perform engineering review of applications for both collector and system certification, including product specifications, installation procedures, and operation & maintenance manuals to determine compliance with SRCC standards for performance, durability, and safety.
  • Evaluate proposed revisions to building codes.
  • Work with other application reviewers to answer questions regarding interpretation of SRCC standards.
  • Develop new test methods and certification standards.

Qualifications:

  • BS in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required. MS degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with solar thermal collector or solar thermal system design.

Comprehensive knowledge of:

  • heat transfer and fluid flow
  • solar principles (resource, thermal collectors and systems, thermal system control strategies, thermal system monitoring)
  • solar thermal collector and system test methods (national and international standards)
  • quality assurance procedures
  • building codes, especially plumbing and residential

Prefer candidates with knowledge in:

  • database query using SQL
  • computer modeling of solar thermal systems
