Service, Education & Adventure (SEA) promotes engagement with the natural world and spirited environmental stewardship by connecting youth, adults and communities in real-world learning and meaningful service on Puget Sound and throughout the Pacific Northwest.
With the 65-foot vessel Indigo as our floating classroom, SEA offers year-round marine-based "journeys with a purpose." Program participants engage in real-world learning, hands-on citizen science, and meaningful service to protect our environment. In 2010, we directly served 1,200 students and 1,100 teachers/adults during 90 Voyages which enabled 7,000 hours of environmental service-learning activities.
Position Overview:
The Donor Outreach Coordinator will work with the Co-Executive Directors and SEA team to develop and coordinate SEAs donor plan, increase our donation income and expand SEAs donor base.
Responsibilities:
Develop and coordinate a comprehensive donor development plan. Tasks include:
- Conduct research on prospects, including individuals and corporations, to identify potential donors and sources of donor information
- Cultivate and manage relationships with current and potential individual donors and corporate sponsors, including arranging and participating in cultivation calls and visits
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major and planned giving donors and prospects
- Plan and coordinate community-based fundraising events
- Develop key fundraising messages and integrate those messages within broad-based as well as personalized appeals
- Work with team to disseminate fundraising appeals using diverse media formats
- Work with Operations and Finance Manager to ensure accurate record keeping for all donations and production of acknowledgement letters
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- 2-5+ years of non-profit fundraising experience; CFRE or similar designation is desirable
- Good general understanding of donation streams, emerging trends and donor cultivation
- Commitment to environmental education and SEAs mission and vision
- Experience in developing major gifts in face-to-face solicitations
- Able to travel within the Puget Sound region

- Excellent oral communication and public speaking ability
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and organize complex information
- Proficient at planning and setting meaningful objectives which align with SEA goals
- Ability to work independently and set priorities
- Ability to write clearly and persuasively
- Strong event planning skills
- Developed computer skills, including experience with constituent relations software
- Ability to thrive as part of a flexible, creative, and collaborative team
Compensation: $14,000 contract for 2011 based on $30/hour. Highly flexible task-centered schedule. The job will include working independently at your location, regular travel in the Puget Sound region with a focus in the greater Seattle area, participation at special events, and variable hours including some evenings and weekends.
