The U.S. Green Building Council seeks a Higher Education Associate who will work as an integral member of the Center for Green Schools with a focus on leading the development, implementation and management of a program that supports sustainability and green building initiatives at under-resourced institutions and reaches students, faculty and staff in under-served communities.

Position Overview: 

Primary responsibilities of this individual will include day-to-day program management, maintaining and building relationships with collaborating organizations, creating or adapting tools and resources to meet the needs of a diverse community and serving as the point of contact for under-resourced schools, including community colleges and minority serving institutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Build capacity at under-resourced colleges and universities through strategic partnerships, remote and in-person trainings, dissemination of resources, and facilitation of a peer-to-peer network
  • Align designated programs and initiatives with fund development goals
  • Serve as the liaison for the Greenbuild scholarship program, the Emerging Professionals program and the USGBC Board of Directors diversity mentoring initiative
  • Oversee the implementation of a robust student mentoring initiative
  • Design and host bi-annual leadership trainings for student mentees, including programming to coincide with USGBC's Annual Greenbuild International Conference and Expo
  • Coordinate with USGBC Students program lead to identify programmatic linkages; identify new opportunities for collaboration with other USGBC departments and chapters
  • Present at relevant higher education conferences and other related events representing the Center for Green Schools
  • Develop and deliver targeted tools and resources to under-resourced institutions
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education and Training Requirements/Preferences:

  • Bachelors degree required
  • LEED Green Associate preferred

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant professional experience working on sustainability initiatives in higher education and/or with under-resourced institutions

Other Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong skills in customer service, writing, organization, and technology
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work efficiently and multitask
  • Willingness and ability to take on unexpected challenges and tasks
  • Team player with outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communications skills (both verbal and written)
  • Very strong organizational and project management skills
  • Experience developing work plans and budgets
  • Experience in volunteerism, grassroots initiatives and/or community engagement preferred
  • Event planning and fundraising experience preferred
  • Interest in sustainable design, green building and leadership development
  • Commitment to the mission of USGBC and the vision of the Center for Green Schools
