Description

Healthy Building Network is a 501c3 non-profit with a mission to transform the building materials market to advance the best environmental, health and social justice practices. Our core project is web application used primarily by architects, designers and healthcare systems to evaluate and compare the environmental, human health and social justice characteristics of building products, and cut through the "greenwash" that pervades the building products marketplace.

Position Overview:

We are looking for a US-based employee to help develop our Zend Framework / PHP-based web application.

Position reports to the Information Systems Director.

Responsibilities:

You need to be able to work in a self-directed environment. You should be able to understand loose guidelines, translate them into code & design with minimal supervision to produce an excellent user interface for our customers.

We are a small team (8) of hard-working non-profit campaigners and researchers who enjoy the data sets we work with, enjoy challenges and thrive on cool design. You will be designing large elements of a very sophisticated web-application with a large amount of business logic. The ability to quickly come up to speed on workflow and concepts is highly desired.

Qualifications:

Your Skills:

  • Self-directed.
  • Expert level PHP 5.x development experience.
  • Expert level MySQL design. You should understand normalization, joins, query optimization, views, stored procedures and triggers and when and how to use them.
  • Ruby on Rails, Symfony, Zend or other MVC framework experience.
  • HTML/CSS/jQuery front-end design. We like things that look pretty.
  • Extreme attention to detail. We hate bugs.
  • Web application security.
  • Dedication, honesty and integrity.
  • Subversion a plus.

Your Educational Experience:

  • BA or BS degree, or equivalent experience.

  • You care about code quality and design and take pride ensuring your code is accessible, maintainable, and cross-browser compliant.
