Earthjustice, the nonprofit law firm for the environment, currently has an opening for a Marketing Director in our Oakland Headquarters office.  Earthjustice works through the courts to safeguard public lands, national forests, parks, and wilderness areas; to reduce air and water pollution; to prevent toxic contamination; and to preserve endangered species and wildlife habitat. 

Position Overview:

Responsible for Earthjustice's brand marketing and outreach. The Director oversees the development, implementation, and measurement of marketing and outreach efforts aimed at building awareness, interest and involvement with the organization. Acts as strategist and project manager with communications, fundraising and program staff. Responsible for ensuring clear communication of the brand identity among priority target audiences. Manages Marketing Manager, consultants, and vendors.

Responsibilities:

1. Brand Marketing Plan/Strategies:

  • Develops integrated marketing plans and strategies to build awareness, interest and involvement with the organization among target audience.
    - builds awareness within defined target audience likely to support Earthjustice
    - communicates Earthjustice's brand identity clearly
    - drives traffic to the website, blog, social networking sites
    - drives conversion from website to email list
  • Conducts secondary/primary research and references external sources as appropriate in determining strategies to efficiently reach target audiences.
  • Tests the effectiveness of implemented strategies--tracking and measuring the level of awareness, interest and engagement among audience over time.

2. Outreach:

  • Oversees selection of issues for marketing focus.
  • Leads and project manages content generated to implement marketing plans, ranging from web content, multimedia production, earned media, online search, advertising, blogging, social networking, events, etc.
  • Develops paid media campaigns as appropriate and oversees public service advertising program, including relationship building and tracking.
  • Partners with Events Manager and communications staff on speaking opportunities for staff and oversees selection/participation in outreach events.
  • Works with the Communications Assistant on product management including new product development, marketing, distribution, and tracking.

3. Management:

  • Oversees Marketing Manager, consultants, and vendors, and facilitates cross-department coordination on marketing-related activities.
  • Develops marketing program and team that is strategic, creative, well-coordinated, and efficient.

4. Marketing Budget:

  • Plan and administer the annual marketing budget.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree - communications, marketing, political science, or environmental studies preferred. 

Experience:                         

10+ years marketing and communications experience with at least some at a nonprofit. Track record of developing and implementing successful marketing plans. Experience setting goals, measures of success and strategy; managing a marketing program and projects , overseeing web content development; managing design work; message development; contracting research; and, managing budgets.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate a variety of detailed outreach projects.
  • Proven track record of effectively managing high performing teams.
  • Excellent collaboration skills.
  • Command of computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite; Quark or Illustrator optional.
