The Midwest Renewable Energy Association promotes renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable living through education and demonstration.

Position Overview:

The Executive Director of the Midwest Renewable Energy Association provides leadership and overall management direction for the organization, consistent with our mission of promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable living through education and demonstration. The position reports to the MREA Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

Organizational Representation:

  • Building strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations
  • Representing MREA to media and building media partnerships
  • Serving on committees and advisory boards of organizations relevant to the mission of the MREA

Administrative:

  • Lead annual organizational strategic planning process
  • Develop organizational 3 and 5 year strategic plans from strategic planning process
  • Identify and resolve legal, logistical, and financial issues with contractors
  • Provide liaison on legal and insurance matters
  • Supervise personnel
  • Work with staff to develop work plans
  • Monitor staff progress and evaluate work performed and delivered as dictated in strategic plan
  • Work with staff to resolve issues relating to staff performance, structure and workload
  • Lead organizational efforts to identify and minimize liabilities, including developing and implementing a risk management plan

Board Relations:

  • Communicate organizational accomplishments and priority items for consideration to the board of directors
  • Facilitate logistics for board committees
  • Communicate and advance board initiatives and policies with MREA staff
  • Supporting the BOD search and screen committee for board candidates
  • Incorporate board initiatives into MREA strategic plan

Financial:

  • Facilitate development of organizational budget
  • Review and analyze monthly reports and balance sheets
  • Provide oversight and approval of banking and accounting
  • Work with staff to develop sector budgets
  • Seek out and build relationships with organizational donors and sponsors
  • Support the BOD in organizational fundraising efforts

Qualifications:

A successful candidate will be:

  • Results oriented and self directed, with a passion for the MREA's mission
  • A strategic thinker and planner who can assess staff performance and needs in meeting their operational goals
  • Flexible, reliable and competent
  • Able and willing to work some weekends and long hours when needed
  • Aware of the organizational management and unique challenges of working in a non-profit setting
  • Able to demonstrate effective supervisory skills and experience
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office 2003-2007-2010, including Excel, Word and QuickBooks
  • Have experience (5 years) managing business finances, including understanding of Profit and Loss Statements, Balance Sheets, budgets and financial projections
  • An excellent communicator who can promote the MREA, our mission, and programs to the public, potential funders and other stakeholders
  • Familiar with the rapidly changing Renewable Energy sector

An advanced degree in business or non-profit management is preferred.

This person will need to live in central Wisconsin.

Compensation: Salary range is $50,000 to $60,000, or commensurate with experience. MREA provides basic health Insurance and flex-spending account contributions. Our office is bike friendly.
