Engineer, Product Development and Manufacturing Support

Silicon Energy (SiE) is a photovoltaic module manufacturer located in Marysville, WA.

Position Overview: 

Silicon Energy is looking for an innovative technical individual who excels working in a multidisciplined and goal oriented manufacturing environment.  This person will utilize both design and process engineering combined with other technical expertise to assist in the development of new product lines as well as support present and future manufacturing processes.   

Responsibilities:

Design:

• Work with a team of product development advisors made up of representatives from each department to set the constraints and goals of the design problem
• Generate concept models of proposed solutions
• Interface with manufacturing to ensure manufacturability goals are met in design phase
• Conduct tolerance and cost analysis of potential designs
• Gather colleague and customer feedback for design refinement
• Complete the design and generate detailed fabrication drawings

Test:

• Inspect incoming or create own prototype parts
• Generate rigorous test methods and test plans to evaluate the proposed product's ability to meet the original goals and constraints as well as SiE's durability standards
• Design, build, and modify test equipment as needed to achieve test plans
• Conduct tests, analyze and utilize test results
• Communicate the test methods and results effectively through written and oral reporting

Ongoing:

• Support the development and execution of design changes and design review activities
• Provide product support as needed, for instance by creating drawings for customers, or working with vendors
• Coordinate with Document Control to ensure organized, complete and up-to-date documentation of current and past designs, work instructions and user manuals

Secondary:

• Create and assist in the implementation of quality control metrics, standards and methods
• Work with operations on creative problem solving, mechanical troubleshooting and improvements to manufacturing equipment and operational procedures
• Support test activities throughout operations, including outside of product design
• Assist in development and fabrication of production fixtures for improved efficiency and quality
• Develop and implement company drawing standards and best practices

Qualifications:

Required:

• Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent combination of experience and education
• Experience with product design and manufacturing support based on fundamental mechanical and electrical fundamentals
• Demonstrated background in product development
• Experienced and proficient with CAD software, preferably Solidworks
• Excellent analytical, organizational, planning, and problem solving/troubleshooting skills
• Self disciplined, highly motivated with strong work ethic
• Ability to work equally well independently and collaboratively
• Enthusiasm for renewable technologies
• Familiarity with design process and validation
• Knowledge and experience with of materials science and product fabrication methods
• Ability to guide and direct others as needed to assist in executing test plans
• Excellent record keeping skills
• Effective written & verbal communication skills.
• Computer literate (Word, Excel, Power Point)

Desired:

• Knowledge of prototyping and production methods, and corrosion and material issues
• Experience taking product through complete design cycle
• Electrical or electro-mechanical engineering background
• Able to apply mathematical and statistical analysis in design evaluation
• Extrusion design experience
• Experience with quality control methods
• Experience with reliability testing and methodologies
• Ability to generate graphics for use in sales and training applications
• Solar industry experience and interest
