Silverwood Organic Farm is a 400-member CSA situated on 100 acres of privately-owned and leased land in Sherborn, MA. We cultivate 15 acres of organically certified vegetables, berries, and herbs for distribution from June through October. We are committed to providing high-quality, diverse, and fresh produce to our members.
For the 2011 season, we are hiring 4 Seasonal Growers to help with all aspects of production and distribution.
Responsibilities:
The Seasonal Growers are involved in all aspects of production and distribution, including greenhouse work; possible tractor operation; infrastructure and irrigation management; field prep; planting and weeding; insect and disease control; harvesting; washing and packing; and CSA distributions. S/he is supervised by and works closely with the farm manager and assistant farm manager.
Qualifications:
1 to 3 seasons of farming experience, preferably in an organic system, is required. Additionally, applicants should have serious interest in CSAs, sustainable agriculture, and certified organic standards. The ability to bring enthusiasm, initiative, and good humor to the intense working conditions of the season is essential. Also, applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule, able to lift 50 lbs, and have a valid driver's license.
Dates: May 1-October 31, 2011
Hours: Monday through Friday; hours vary during season from 40-60 and may include weekends
Compensation: $1600 monthly stipend, workman's comp, 5 days paid time-off, produce from the farm, and participation in EMASSCRAFT trainings
