Description

The Commission is responsible for the consolidation, co-ordination and planning of all forms of local passenger transportation within the urban area of Toronto, except for railways incorporated under federal and provincial statutes, and taxis.

Position Overview: 

Reporting to the Supervisor: Operations Support, you are responsible for co-ordinating and implementing all aspects of the Commission's Green Procurement Policy within Plant Maintenance Department's operations.

Responsibilities:

Your specific duties include:

  • becoming familiar with and applying the principles of the Commission's Green Procurement Policy;
  • examining opportunities for improved environmental performance;
  • utilizing the Green Procurement Checklist in order to develop, prepare revise and integrate green specifications into procurement contract language;
  • performing product research for green products and activities;
  • exploring the possibility of implementation of best management practices used by other transit organizations;
  • conducting facility performance analysis of water and natural gas consumption;
  • participating with the Commission's Green Procurement Working Committee;
  • management of Plant Maintenance Department Green Procurement goals and objectives;
  • performing life cycle costing analysis of Green Procurement proposals as a key tool in obtaining best value and be able to endorse the financial benefits and environmental benefits;
  • reviewing design proposals incorporating Green Procurement principles and preparing associated reports;
  • using performance management data to demonstrate the success of the Green Procurement Policy's implementation in Plant Maintenance Department.

Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.

Qualifications:

You must possess sound knowledge of maintenance practices, construction practices, design principles and specification development for types of rehabilitation and construction projects carried out by the Plant Maintenance Department combined with familiarization with current local and national trends in Green Procurement as well as applicable codes/practices/standards (e.g. environmental legislation, Occupational Health & Safety Act).

You must possess sound judgement and well-developed technical, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, verbal communication and technical report writing skills. You must also be computer literate with strong knowledge of personal computers and computerized applications related to the work (e.g. MS Office, MS Word, Excel, Access, etc.).

These abilities would normally be acquired through a combination of post secondary education in the areas of civil engineering technology, architectural technology or environmental technology combined with practical experience/knowledge of the processes/materials typically used in the repair and rehabilitation of buildings and industrial facilities.

Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
