Position Overview:
A Santa Fe-based youth empowerment and community development organization whose mission is to educate and engage young people in creating healthy, just, and sustainable communities is seeking a Co-Executive Director/Development Manager.
The job of the Co-Executive Director is to increase funding for the organization so it may expand staff and services in Santa Fe and northern New Mexico. The Co-ED is responsible for all aspects of fundraising in cooperation with the current Executive Director, including (1) maintaining current funding and developing new sources of funding; (2) strengthening and nurturing our donor base; (3) championing the organization's vision of youth-led sustainable community and (4) working with staff and board of directors on development projects and initiatives. The co-executive director's main objective is to adhere to a strategic plan to procure funds for the organization while promoting our mission and programs.
This is a part-time position, 25 hours a week, job sharing with the current Executive Director. Some weekends and evening required.
Responsibilities:
Fundraising:
- Increase funding for the organization so it may expand services to Santa Fe and northern New Mexico.
- Create and execute a long-range development plan.
- Locate and develop new sources of funding especially major donors, foundations, and government agencies.
Donor Development:
- Working from specific objectives and performance outcomes, cultivate relationships with foundations, individual donors, and prospective donors through visits, phone calls, correspondence, and special events in order to strengthen and nurture donor base.
- Build upon and create key relationships to expand funding bases and to ensure that the organizations' programs and goals are realized.
- Create and administer fund-raising programs and spend a significant amount of time writing to and meeting with donors.
- Involve the Co-ED in the above activities, as appropriate.
Sponsorships/Advertising:
- Secure advertisers to fund the production and distribution of annual publication.
- Secure sponsorships from local businesses and organizations for other projects, as needed.
Fundraising Events:
- Assist the Outreach & Development Coordinator and board fundraising committee on its special fundraising events and projects (e.g., annual dinner, raffle).
- Develop and implement an annual major donor special event fundraiser.
Communications:
- Maintain strong communication with the co-executive director, board of directors and donors via newsletters or other publications to demonstrate financial need and show the fiscal responsibility of the organization.
- Work closely with the organizational leadership and key program teams to develop and lead a comprehensive communications strategy to educate and engage the public, media, and key opinion leaders regarding the organization's mission and more widely to share work of the movement.
Budget:
- Develop and manage fund-raising budget.
- Create fund-raising programs and activities while ensuring that the organization operates within the board-approved budget. Adhering to a budget and focusing on meeting fund-raising goals are crucial components of this position.
Record Keeping:
- Assist the Outreach & Development Coordinator in maintaining up to date donor records and database.
Other Duties:
- Other areas of primary responsibility in line with the Co-ED role will be assigned based on the skills and experience the candidate brings to this position and may include: financial management, human resources management, and organizational development.
Qualifications:
- 4+ years experience in leadership role in nonprofit sector.
- Be a committed and dynamic champion of the organization and its mission.
- Have a basic understanding of sustainable community development and youth empowerment but most important have a willingness to learn.
- Possess proven abilities in donor development, strong nonprofit fundraising skills, and a record of setting and meeting fundraising goals.
- Possess the ability to work as part of a shared leadership team, collegially and effectively with the Co-ED, with other staff, and with the board of directors.
- Possess well developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Be computer proficient and possess experience using multiple software applications.
- Hold a valid driver's license, possess reliable personal transportation, and be willing and able to travel for organizational business when needed.
- Possess the ability to work respectfully and effectively with a broad range of people in order to widen the circle of support for the organization.
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or nonprofit management and/or relevant experience in the nonprofit community.
- Applicant must understand the ins and outs of nonprofits, including legal fund-raising techniques.
