Description
Kansas State University is inviting applications for the position of the newly created Director of Energy and Environment Program. KSU is the state's land grant university with 9 colleges, 2 campuses and extension and research offices located throughout the State of Kansas.
Responsibilities:
The Director of Energy and Environment Program (EEP) will be responsible for the development of energy reduction initiatives and tasks will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Identify and initiate energy reduction opportunities through review of architectural and engineering documents and inspection of current structures.
- Effectively communicate and involve the university community in the EEP.
- Regularly meet with the Associate V.P. of Facilities and the Director of Sustainability to review program progress and receive directions.
- Develop and maintain EEP goals to achieve energy reduction through upgrades of building envelopes and mechanical systems and also modification of building occupant behaviors.
- Develop an EEP budget based on energy reduction savings and additional funding through grant and low interest loans to be repaid through energy savings.
- Measure, verify and analyze energy reduction through a data driven process. Provide reports of results and make recommendations for improvements.
- Educate the campus community and general public of energy saving initiatives through presentations to university administration, lectures, seminar presentations articles, and web-site informational postings.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent and eligible for registration in the State of Kansas as a professional engineer;
- 3 years experience in the operation and control of commercial size building mechanical/electrical systems, power plant operation/equipment and utility distribution systems;
- good working knowledge of computerized energy management systems;
- knowledge of HVAC systems in order to identify energy saving procedures that can be incorporated for conservation;
- good oral, written and interpersonal skills;
- an understanding of utility rate structures and their application to utility bill calculations and an understanding of mechanical systems and the relation of operating efficiencies and energy consumption.
Preferred:
- Preferred qualifications include registration in the State of Kansas as a professional engineer;
- certified Energy Management or Environmental (or Energy) Management System experience and/or certification;
- understanding of complex, preferably governmental, procurement processes and state utility regulatory commission operations;
- and 4 years of supervisory experience.
