Position Overview: 

The managers of the Wildlife Sanctuary and Community Education volunteering trip in South Africa have a current opening to assist in the general management of the sanctuary's operations.

There is no financial remuneration. However, all accommodation and food during the 6 months at the Wildlife Sanctuary will be included in return for your efforts. Candidates are expected to fund all other costs including flights, insurance and personal purchases themselves.

Responsibilities: 

Successful Candidates will be responsible for the following

  • Coordinator of volunteers
  • Handy man work around the camp
  • Camp maintenance
  • Evening volunteer debriefs
  • Overseeing the general provisional for the animal camps
  • Ensuring inventory of all animal tasks complete on a daily basis
  • Bush clearing
  • Occasional transportation
  • Delegating daily tasks
  • Be an approachable mentor for volunteers

Candidates will receive training during an initial 4 week training programme (funded by candidate) whilst they fulfill the role of a volunteer themselves. Dependent upon aptitude and availability, successful applicants are then awarded the 6 Month Wildlife Sanctuary Volunteer Coordinator position.

Qualifications:

Successful Candidates will:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be dedicated, enthusiastic and hardworking
  • Be an excellent team player
  • Have a good sense of humor
  • Be respectful of the host country's environment
  • Have a strong interest in wildlife
  • Be comfortable with manual work and have excellent 'handy man' related skills
  • Have an internationally accepted driving license permitting them to drive in South Africa
  • Be willing to help in all of the Wildlife Sanctuary's activities and operations
  • Have completed an initial 4 week paid volunteer trip of at least 4 weeks (from £990 / $1980 (US) / €1090)

Start Date: Upon completion of the initial 4 week (minimum) training period. Start date ASAP.
Duration: 6 months
Organisation: Wildlife Sanctuary and Community Education organisation based deep in the heart of the South African Lowveld. Location: In the Limpopo Province, South Africa. Nearest airport is Hoedspruit Airport.

Compensation: There is no financial remuneration. However, all accommodation and food during the 6 months at the Wildlife Sanctuary will be included in return for your efforts. Candidates will be expected to fund all other costs for travel, leisure, personal purchases etc. themselves.
