A leader in the growing farm-to-school movement in Vermont, Green Mountain Farm-to-School (GMFTS) promotes the health and wellbeing of Vermont's children, farms and communities by providing programs to connect schools and farms through food and education.

Position Overview: 

Green Mountain Farm-to-School seeks a dynamic, mission-driven educator with strong communications and strategic organizing skills to support the growth of our organization. The primary responsibilities of the Education Coordinator will be to develop, manage, grow, present, and evaluate GMFTS' educational programs and provide general operational and administrative support. The Education Coordinator will lead our Education Team as GMFTS grows to serve 20 schools in 2010. The Education Coordinator reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

The Education Coordinator will:

  • Develop strategies for growth plan execution and help launch new GMFTS school programs
  • Lead weekly 2-hour after-school programs at school sites
  • Coordinate summer program activities for students and community members
  • Coordinate in-class nutrition and agriculture workshops for students
  • Plan, develop, and maintain educational materials
  • Purchase, distribute, and maintain program supplies and equipment
  • Design and distribute outreach and publicity materials
  • Develop and implement evaluation tools; collect, analyze, and report data for program evaluation
  • Train and supervise education staff, interns and volunteers
  • Assist with raising funds for educational programs by researching potential funders, preparing fundraising materials, and supporting events
  • Provide general support to organization, as necessary

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience teaching children in an experiential and hands-on setting
  • Excellent public speaking, writing and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly growing non-profit environment

Compensation: This is a full-time position with salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
