Position Overview:

The Greenhouse Gas Verification Coordinator carries out a variety of administrative and technical tasks and activities related to carbon footprint and forest carbon offset verification. Carbon footprint verification is conducted under the auspices of The Climate Registry (TCR).

Forest carbon offset verification is conducted under an array of programs including the Climate Action Reserve (CAR), Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate Community Biodiversity Standard (CCB). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take on more technical tasks- assuming he/she demonstrates capacity and enthusiasm. Work is to be conducted from SCS' Point Richmond office and this position will report to Program Manager, Greenhouse Gas Program.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure documentation related to auditing (e.g., work orders, contracts, reports) is properly executed and maintained;
  • Support the Program Manager in his daily responsibilities;
  • Organize and maintain file systems, client database, and program website;
  • Assist with ISO accreditation and quality system management;
  • Schedule and coordinate verification audits;
  • Review and edit verification reports and other program documents;
  • Assist in developing new certification guidelines for auditors, clients, and staff;
  • Assist with preparation of proposals for verification work;
  • Provide customer service to existing, new, and potential U.S. and international clients in regards to the verification process;
  • Liaise with SCS' international representatives;
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in a natural resource or environmental discipline
  • Superlative organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Initiative and ability to work independently
  • Effective time management skills; ability to prioritize multiple demands and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • English fluency

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience or education in forestry, climate change or related natural resource management field is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese
  • Knowledge of environmental policy and standardized procedures
  • Familiarity with greenhouse gas protocols/standards
  • Experience with Filemaker Pro or other database systems
