Description

The mission of the Galveston Bay Foundation is to preserve, protect and enhance the natural resources of the Galveston Bay estuarine system and its tributaries for present users and for posterity. To accomplish this mission the Foundation has targeted 4 goals:

  • Advocacy: Encourage and actively seek solutions to conflicts among the diverse users of the Bay.
  • Conservation: Develop projects aimed at preserving/enhancing the natural resources of the Bay system.
  • Education: Provide resources and guidance for education projects aimed at developing a constituency for the Bay, from schoolchildren to public officials.
  • Research: Support the allocation of public and private resources for research into the multiple resources of the Bay system and ultimately establish a research endowment.

Committees established by the Trustees of the Foundation will develop specific objectives designed to meet these goals of the Foundation, including the required fundraising efforts. The Foundation will also seek appropriate levels of funding and staff for an administrative office to provide the necessary support and coordination of these efforts.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for management and operations of GBF's conserved properties and easements, including coordinating habitat restoration and invasive species control projects. Will also be responsible for preparing biologic assessments on prospective properties and easements.

The Land Manager will interface with the GBF Land Committee, staff, volunteers, project partners, adjacent landowners, and contractors to provide for the effective management of a network of conserved properties. Duties include writing and implementing land management plans, conservation easement and baseline documentation, grant management, and other land protection and stewardship activities as needed.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree is required and an advanced degree is preferred. The field of study should be environmental management, natural resources management, biology, environmental law, or another related field. The ideal candidate will have 3 or more years of professional experience; possess a zest for field work but also have excellent written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and manage productive relationships with staff, consultants, partners, and others; and a detail-oriented style with a focus on results.

Compensation: Based upon experience. Health insurance and retirement savings programs are provided.
