Distant Village Packaging is an exciting and rapidly growing international company specializing in custom hand-made packaging specialty products. Our US-based packaging design team works closely with international artisans. Position Overview:

We are seeking a part-time Intern to assist in researching and developing a sustainability audit for the existing and new artisan groups we purchase from, and assist in furthering our goal to achieve Fair Trade certification. We offer a friendly and supportive working environment in which you will be challenged, valued, and encouraged to grow within a very hands-on environment.

This opportunity is well suited for a self-starter who enjoys new challenges, variety, and able to work independently. Previous experience conducting or researching Greenhouse Gas Assessment protocols is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Research the principles of Fair Trade, focusing on European Union standards, and identify any gaps in company practices vs. Fair Trade principles.
  • Assist in researching and developing a sustainability audit for existing and new suppliers to verify sustainable economic, environmental and social practices. Current industry standard environmental and economic sustainability audit protocols maybe adapted for Distant Village Packaging use, while creation of social sustainability audit protocols will be researched and created.
  • Collect and input data from artisans into the created comprehensive sustainability audit.
  • Based on completed research and results, assist in developing ongoing strategy to ensure continuous compliance with Sustainability and Fair Trade principles.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional researcher with the ability to focus on critical details, while still maintaining a broad focus.
  • Excellent speaking skills to persuasively communicate ideas.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office standard suite.
  • Resourceful researcher, networker, and quick learner.
  • Passionate about sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
  • Understanding of Fair Trade practices and sustainability audits a plus!
