The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) is a nonprofit organization representing over 600 electric utility, solar industry, and stakeholder members. SEPA's mission is to facilitate solutions for the use and integration of solar electric power by utilities, electric service providers, and their customers. Position Overview:
The Utility Outreach Manager will manage the implementation of the organization's strategy to increase interaction with utilities and increase utility membership. This position will work in close collaboration with the organization's 3 Regional Directors and the Director of Membership on the development of relationships with utilities and efforts to educate them about solar energy and its value to the utility and its customers.
The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of electric utility experience and an understanding of solar technologies and their integration into the utility business environment. Candidate must possess demonstrated management and organizational skills and be willing to undertake extensive regional and domestic travel.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the development of an annual strategy to increase and improve outreach to electric utilities in the U.S. and abroad and coordinate implementation through the Regional Directors. Responsibilities include:
- Manage collaboration between 3 regional directors and various departments at the organization's headquarters.
- Assist in scheduling, coordinating, and preparing for regional workshops and meetings and serve as the primary interface with the DC office on issues related to regional events.
- Schedule and coordinate Regional Advisory Committee meetings; assist Regional Directors with committee interaction.
- Input Regional Directors' interaction with utility employees into the association's customer database.
- Coordinate with the organization's Policy Manager to provide information on policy and regulation to the Regional Directors.
- Collect and maintain database(s) of information relevant to SEPA's utility outreach activities, including:
- National electric industry data including number of utilities by type
- State-specific electric industry data including emissions, fuel mix, and relative sizes of utilities.
- Information on specific utilities, including but not limited to revenue, customers, demand side management and energy efficiency investments, and links to relevant financial reports
- Information on state energy offices and public utility commissions, solar manufacturers, state and local renewable groups and environmental groups, and utility associations
- Manage membership recruitment efforts with electric utilities, in close collaboration with the Regional Directors and the Membership Department. Responsibilities include:
- Serve as a liaison between the Regional Directors and the Membership Department
- Participate in the development of the annual membership recruitment strategy
- Follow up with non-member utilities before and after meetings with information about the value of membership and how to join
- Represent SEPA at utility events and coordinate onsite membership recruitment efforts with the Director of Membership
- Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree preferred
- 5+ years working within an electric utility
- Understanding of environmental and renewable energy issues, including solar electricity, as they relate to electric utilities
- Highly organized, self starter, and quick learner
- Strong project management skills, capable of designing, monitoring and tracking many timelines and databases simultaneously
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, proactive, and solutions oriented
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and to work independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
- Ability to undertake extensive regional and domestic travel
Compensation: $50,000-$70,000, dependent on experience. SEPA provides employees a competitive benefits package including fully paid individual health and dental insurance, short and long term disability coverage, and life insurance, up to 24 days of Paid Time Off per year with an annual paid holiday break, and paid government holidays.
