Description

Since 2001 the New England Aquarium (NEAq) has worked with major seafood corporations on the environmental responsibility of the fish and shellfish products they buy and sell. NEAq provides guidance to our partners on a diversity of topics including the development of policies and programs related to seafood sustainability, issues surrounding procurement, and marketing and outreach. Through these efforts, NEAq aims to influence seafood supply chains in favor of marine conservation.

Position Overview:

This advisory program recently established several new positions to support a variety of programmatic needs from strategic growth, to client management, to scientific guidance. The individual in this new position will act to strategically grow the program's client base and support broader business development needs of the Sustainable Seafood Advisory Services.

  1. Develop and implement a strategy to grow the program's partner-base including tactics to measure progress toward the program's conservation goals.
  2. Work with seafood industry to identify information gaps and conservation needs of major seafood buyers and initiate program resources to fulfill areas of need.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead business development for Sustainable Seafood Advisory Services (i.e., develop strategy for building programmatic growth, conduct research and scoping, and initiate conversations with potential new partners).
  • Identify and foster new potential corporate partners and convert them into working, prosperous relationships.
  • Facilitate engagement with corporate partners and their suppliers.
  • Develop goals and strategies for partner corporations to address key seafood sustainability issue areas in coordination with the Sustainable Seafood Advisory Services technical team.
  • Represent the program at professional meetings and conferences as needed.
  • Lead and manage business planning in association with the Advisory Services principals.
  • Develop and maintain financial and operational targets and tools to manage program objectives and gauge progress.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in management or business or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in business development or equivalent.
  • Experience growing or building a business strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of seafood industry and seafood conservation issues strongly preferred.
  • Strong negotiation and business-relation skills required.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • A working knowledge of PC-based systems is required, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and the Internet.
