The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) is a nonprofit organization representing over 550 electric utility, solar industry, and stakeholder members. SEPA's mission is to facilitate solutions for the use and integration of solar electric power by utilities, electric service providers, and their customers.  More information about SEPA is available here.

Position Overview: 

The Research Associate will be primarily responsible for assisting in the development of analysis reports, surveys, briefings, and website tools on solar technologies, policies, and programs, and will assist in the management of research projects, including the development of timelines and progress report preparation. The position reports to the Senior Research and Project Analyst.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development of analysis reports, surveys and briefings on solar technologies, policies, and programs
  • Coordinate management of projects, including creating timelines, tracking progress, and preparing reports
  • Write papers, briefs, press releases, web pages, and other technical informational materials on solar and utility issues
  • Tracking solar project announcements and maintaining offline and online databases
  • Respond to requests for information, referrals, and other needs from electric utilities, solar companies and other solar industry stakeholders
  • Prepare presentations on the solar industry, utility activity in solar, and SEPA projects for delivery by senior staff at industry events
  • Represent organization at conferences, meetings, and workshops, and deliver presentations as needed
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, science, or policy with 1+ years of experience
  • Experience within the traditional or renewable energy industries is desired.
  • Strong skills in statistics, technical writing, research, and data management
  • Ability to assimilate diverse technology, market, and policy issues
  • Interest in environmental and renewable energy issues; knowledge of solar technologies is desired
  • Ability to complete a combination of short-term needs, while managing long-term projects
  • Quick learner and self-starter
  • Interest in working in a flexible, motivated, small yet quickly growing office environment
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Available for light travel (2 - 4 trips/year)

Compensation: SEPA provides employees a competitive benefits package including fully paid individual health and dental insurance, short and long term disability coverage, and life insurance, up to 24 days of Paid Time Off per year with an annual paid holiday break, and paid government holidays.  Metro benefit and health club memberships are available to eligible employees. After 1 year of service, employees are eligible for a contribution of up to 5% of their annual salary to a designated retirement account.
