Earthwatch Institute is an international non-profit organization that engages people worldwide in scientific field research and education to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment. The Deputy Director of Global Climate Change Field Centers will work on the HSBC Climate Partnership (HCP) - a 5 year funded program initiated in 2007 - that engages HSBC employees and the general public in an experiential learning program at Regional Climate Centers (RCC).
Position Overview:
The Deputy Director of Global Climate Change Field Centers is responsible for supporting the Head of Regional Climate Centers and ensuring delivery of high-quality programs at the 5 RCCs in the US, UK, India, Brazil and China in accordance with Earthwatch policies, procedures, and best practices as well as HSBC Climate Partnership deliverables and objectives.

Responsibilities:
The Deputy Director of Global Climate Change Field Centers will manage specific projects within RCC Operations as established with the Director of Global Climate Change Field Centers. Projects will include:
- risk management implementation at RCCs
- health, safety, and logistics for programs running at RCCs
- emergency response planning and response training for staff
- recruitment and training of RCC staff
- new program development
- resource allocation and strategic planning
- field management for HCP Local Volunteering Projects
- managing operational requirements in countries with HCP operations
- participate on a contingency delivery team that will be periodically required to support staffing and operations at RCCs to include delivery of learning sessions
- program evaluation
- budgetary review and projections
- relationship management with research partners and partner organizations
- editing program briefing documents
- participating as a member of the EW Incident Management Team, including the Duty Officer Roster
- quarterly reporting and staff updates
- field assessments at RCCs on an as-needed basis
- administrative responsibilities associated with projects
The Deputy Director of Global Climate Change Field Centers is a member of the Field Management team and will be a part of a cross-functional team that ensures high-quality delivery at the RCCs.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of leadership experience for field-based or experiential education programs
- Experience supervising staff - preferably in a remote management scenario
- International travel leadership experience
- Proven experience managing field incidents and managing risk
- Strong budgetary skills and proficient in using MS Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team in a collegial setting
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Highly organized, with exceptional project and time management skills
- Ability to think strategically, and solve problems creatively
- Cross-cultural competency
- Willingness to travel up to 10 weeks per year
- Wilderness first aid certification preferred, advanced wilderness medical certification a plus
- Portuguese or Spanish fluency preferred
Compensation: $45,000- $50,000 commensurate with experience. Good benefits package.
