Position Overview:

This position will provide the necessary research and data to inform standards development and assist in the assessment of product certification. This person will be a critical thought-leader and green chemistry expert for the organization, providing both technical expertise and direction on the advancement of green chemistry and public health in the green marketplace.

Responsibilities: 

The major responsibilities of this role include:

  1. Provides hazard and risk-based information on a wide range of products and substances and in a wide range of industries to assist in decision-making for standards and product certifications.
  2. Leads the investigation and the feasibility of new product testing Standards by applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to products and systems.
  3. Maintains and develops extensive scientific knowledge of current and new technologies related to green chemistry for new products, as well as current needs and trends.
  4. Stays ahead of changing technologies in the field by reading journals and scientific publications, attending academic conferences, writing and collaborating on original publications, and delivering presentations on scientific topics.
  5. May participate in industry standard technical committees and/or provide support to standard technical panels.
  6. Provide training and seminars to both internal staff and external stakeholders.
  7. Works as an environmental project manager, working directly with customers on their projects for sustainable product certification. Will lead the project through assessment, testing, and analysis and work closely with customers to ensure their needs are met.

Qualifications:

  • Detailed knowledge of the technical vocabulary common to the appropriate discipline.
  • Working knowledge of industry issues, needs, and problems.
  • Detailed knowledge of state of the art analytical instrumentation.
  • University Degree ( Bachelor's degree) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a closely related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of industry experience in green chemistry or toxicology. Preference for experience working within a company on developing safer/more environmentally friendly products, or for working with a testing laboratory in this area.
  • Significant knowledge and expertise of chemistry and toxicology with the experience related to the green marketplace. Significant knowledge of hazardous and toxic substances and their effects on the environment and human health.
  • Experience working with chemical databases, such as CleanGredients(r), EPA's EpiSuite and others.
  • Knowledge of hazardous chemical lists and global regulations affecting substances.
  • Must be able to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability and willingness to make sound, scientific decisions in challenging environments.
