Position Overview:
Our Southern Alberta has a wonderful opportunity for a creative individual seeking to further their skills in the application of scientific research to conservation campaigning and programming in the Environmental Non-profit sector. This individual will bring creativity and initiative to help incorporate current scientific research in conservation recommendations and campaigns.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Conservation Planner and Executive Director, the position is responsible for:
- Summarizing current scientific research on a variety of land-use topics related watersheds and other areas of ecological significance in Southern Alberta.
- Conducting a literature review of Market-Based Incentives as applied to conservation project implementation.
- Presenting and discussing (with the Senior Conservation Planner and other organizations) the implications of current research to the conservation of Southern Alberta ecosystems and biodiversity.
- Writing media releases to assist in launching communications campaigns or other conservation campaigns.
- Attending various outreach events to engage the public in CPAWS Southern Alberta's conservation initiatives.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of post-secondary education in biological or conservation sciences.
- A passion for the conservation of Southern Alberta ecosystems and biodiversity.
- Previous experience with ecology and biology research is an asset.
- Strong public speaking and writing skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word suite of programs.
- Initiative, tact, and discretion.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work some days in Canmore and some days in Calgary.
