Description

The Collaborative Labeling and Appliance Standards Program (CLASP) is an international non-profit whose mission is to provide best practice technical advice on energy efficiency standards and labeling (S&L) in order to maximize energy and carbon savings from the implementation of these policies. CLASP organizes teams of local and international experts to collaborate under a common management/peer review framework to strive toward maximum energy saving impacts and implement best practice S&L.

CLASP has been selected by the ClimateWorks Foundation to be a Best Practice Network (BPN) for appliance, lighting, and equipment. As a result of this support, CLASP (an existing non-governmental organization) is expanding its staff in key regions as well as its global outreach on S&L.

Position Overview:

CLASP is seeking a Director of Technical Services to ensure the technical quality of its programmatic work. The Director of Technical Services will provide the technical vision and in-house peer review for CLASP's country programs, regional initiatives, and cross-cutting activities such as research and training. The Director of Technical Services will serve as the primary technical liaison for sponsors, staff, consultants, and partner organizations.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the CLASP Executive Director, the Director of Technical Services will ensure that:

  1. Best practice technical analysis is developed and presented to key S&L decision-makers at the right time and in the right format for maximum energy saving impacts.
  2. All CLASP's deliverables are of the highest quality and meet the highest standards of technical excellence, country appropriateness and policy relevance.
  3. CLASP's staff and consultants offer best practice advice and deep technical competence on S&L.

The Director of Technical Services will impact the success of S&L globally and will be a key resource to the global S&L network. A measure of success for the Director of Technical Services will be the extent to which strong liaison and coordination is happening consistently and spontaneously with the Regional Climate Foundations (RCF) that are part of ClimateWorks-as well as other energy efficiency organizations.

The position carries an opportunity for fundraising which will be undertaken with coordination and support from the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate would have as many of the following characteristics as possible:

  • More than 10 years of experience as a technical expert and/or implementer of S&L;
  • Strong existing relationships with international S&L experts and a track record of tapping into this network for the betterment of project outcomes;
  • A Master's/PHD in engineering, energy economics or other scientific/technical field of relevance to energy efficiency.

  • Experience working in a developing country and/or multi-cultural environment.
  • A successful track-record of managing global networks and collaborative ventures;
  • More than 10 years of experience managing teams, staff and subcontractors;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and consistently with colleagues, technical staff, project donors, and Board Members, both orally and in writing.
  • Fluency in English and at least one other language (Spanish is particularly helpful);
  • A willingness to travel internationally with a high frequency.

Compensation: Salary will be commensurate with experience and a competitive benefits package will be offered.

Start Date: As soon as possible.
