Description

Pittsburgh is one of the "greenest" cities in the United States, thanks in part to the tireless work of Green Building Alliance. With a 15-year track record of advocating for green buildings and supporting the work of green professionals, we are seeking qualified candidates to lead the agency through its next phase of identifying opportunities to serve the green industry.

Our Vision - capitalizing on our established network and credibility, Green Building Alliance will continue to lead change in our region by raising public awareness, providing education, acting as a resource center, and continuing in our role as a catalyst for environmentally sound building practices, materials, and healthy indoor environments.

If you are an experienced and visionary professional with a background in the green sector, coupled with business acumen, fund development successes, an entrepreneurial orientation and senior management experience, we'd like to hear from you.

The Green Building Alliance (GBA) is a non-profit organization that advances economic prosperity and human well being in Western Pennsylvania by driving market demand for green buildings and green building products across every aspect of the built environment. Founded in 1993, GBA is the leading regional organization driving innovation and awareness of the value of green building, environmentally sustainable building practices, and providing technical assistance for professionals in the field. GBA is an affiliate of the U.S. Green Building Council, and provides services and support for USGBC and its members in Western Pennsylvania.

GBA has modern, energy-efficient offices in the South Side of Pittsburgh, a staff of 10, and a current operating budget of more than $2.5 million. GBA has an office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and branches in Erie and the Laurel Highlands.

Current GBA programs and services include (but are not limited to):

  • The Green Building Products Initiative, a dynamic strategy to grow green jobs and create economic opportunity in Pennsylvania.
  • The Pittsburgh Climate Initiative - co-managed by GBA and designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and slow the effects of global warming.
  • Various GBA publications which notify the public about what's happening in green building in western Pennsylvania.

This is an exciting time for GBA. Following the planned departure of the founding Executive Director, GBA is preparing for the next phase of its organization life cycle - one that is ripe with opportunity. GBA is currently being managed by an Interim Executive Director, who is working collaboratively with board, staff and partners to ensure the health and well-being of the organization while a search is conducted for the permanent Executive Director.

Additional information on GBA can be found by visiting our website.

Position Overview:

The Executive Director reports to the GBA Board of Directors and is responsible for implementing programs and services consistent with GBA's mission, as well as overseeing all day to day operations. This full-time, exempt position requires someone with a belief in sustainability, as well as knowledge of the green building sector, exemplary organizational management skills, fiscal acumen, a diverse background of demonstrated fund development success, and the ability to manage vision and purpose.

GBA needs a strategically opportunistic leader who can be proactive and responsive to the needs of the green community. Additionally, we are seeking someone with demonstrated presentation skills, excellent communication skills across a variety of platforms, integrity and trust, strategic agility, political savvy and business acumen. Finally, preference will be given to a proven leader with a demonstrated passion for our mission.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise all aspects of the GBA operations.
  • Direct and supervise all fundraising activities with direct responsibility for foundation and corporate-related fundraising.

  • Serve as the GBA's primary spokesperson for the communication of GBA's services, goals and accomplishments to other related organizations, government departments and officials, funders, and prospective clients.
  • Make educational presentations to targeted sectors of the building industry with particular emphasis on the decision maker (demand) sector.
  • Promote the work of the GBA and the greening of Western Pennsylvania locally and nationally.
