The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 17,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking a personable and detail-oriented individual to work in the Education department.

Position Overview: 

The Formal Education Associate will work closely with the Manager of K-12 and Higher Education to support the further integration of green building and sustainability into K-12 and higher education curriculum. The Formal Education Associate will provide administrative and logistical support to the Formal Education Committee, assist with coordination of the Excellence in Green Building Education Awards program, USGBC Educator Institutes and complete special projects supporting USGBC's mission of market transformation and goals outlined in the 2009 USGBC Strategic Plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Formal Education Committee Coordination
    • Support communication with committee members through routine calls and updates
    • Coordinate committee task force efforts
    • Support annual retreat and other meetings requiring committee participation
  • Excellence in Green Building Education Awards Program
    • Identify opportunities to promote award winning programs
    • Coordinate submissions for future awards programs
    • Assist in all aspects of judging award submissions
  • Educator Resource Center and Events
    • Support all stages of planning for and hosting Educator Institutes
    • Develop web-based educator resources and professional development opportunities
    • Collaborate with Greenbuild 365 Coordinator to keep websites updated with pertinent information
  • Relationships with strategically allied initiatives
    • Research organizations and institutions engaged in allied initiatives
    • Support outreach and relationship building efforts with organizations
    • Implement collaborative initiatives with organizations
    • Liaison with USGBC Chapters to promote educator involvement in local initiatives

Related Organizational Goals and Objectives:

  • Educate relevant sectors of the building community to routinely integrate into their work consideration of built environments' direct impact
  • Educate building owners and users about the role of the built environment in climate change and resource depletion
  • Increase access of underserved populations to the benefits of green building by educating building owners and occupants in underserved areas
  • Enable chapters and members to identify and effectively advocate for public policies that advance green building and the creation of sustainable cities and communities

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years experience in education or related field required
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills
  • Strong writing skills a plus
  • Commitment to USGBC Mission
