Responsibilities:
Plant and maintain plant beds for seasonal interest, including trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, groundcovers and bulbs. Maintain existing plant beds and lawns. Select and order plants and supplies. Operate and maintain Parks & Recreation mowing equipment, basic power tools and sprinkler system. Supervise employees and volunteers, and instruct them in proper gardening techniques. Maintain records and prepare written reports. Interact with staff and the public in a courteous and professional manner.
Qualifications:
- 2 years of full-time experience in gardening work, including experience in each of the following: planting, cultivating and caring for trees, plants, shrubs and lawns; or
- 30 credits in horticulture, agriculture or a related field from an accredited college or community college, and 1 year of experience as described in "1" above; or
- A certificate from a recognized horticultural or botanical program, and 1 year of full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. However, candidates must have at least 1 year of full-time experience as described in "1" above.
- New York City residency is required within 90 days of employment.
License Requirements:
- A Motor Vehicle Operator's License valid in the State of New York at time of appointment.
- A Commercial Pesticide Applicator-Category 3A License issued by the State of New York Department of Environmental Conservation at time of appointment.
Compensation: New Hire Rate: $43,503; Incumbent Rate: $50,029
