Description
Openlands is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing open spaces in northeastern Illinois and the surrounding region.
Founded in 1963, it is one of the nation's oldest and most successful urban conservation organizations, helping to protect more than 55,000 acres of land in the Chicagoland region, including the Illinois Prairie Path, Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, and hundreds of local parks, wetlands, forest preserves, bike and water trails, and urban gardens.
Position Overview:
Openlands has an immediate opening for a hard-working, dependable, and versatile PR intern.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting and compiling research
- Updating, managing, and expanding media lists for targeted PR efforts
- Identifying and archiving media clips and media coverage reports
- Drafting and disseminating press releases, fact sheets, correspondence, and other materials
- Orchestrating logistics for press events
- Light pitching to the media
- Participating in brainstorming sessions and contributing to overarching PR strategies
Although hours are flexible, we prefer an intern who can work at least 2 full days per week.
Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, adapt to new conditions, and meet deadlines
- Capable of working both independently and in group environments
- Solid knowledge of MS Office suite
- Proper phone and e-mail decorum
- Equally passionate about public relations and protecting the environment
- Basic understanding of PR principles through previous coursework or other internships is a plus
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship, however college credit is available when applicable.
