Baltimore City is building a coalition of public-private, community based and philanthropic partners to collectively promote a "green collar jobs" workforce plan. With the support of the Annie E. Casey Foundation and our local Workforce Investment Board, Baltimore is moving aggressively to target sustainability as a growth employment sector. 

Position Overview:

The Baltimore Office of Sustainability is seeking a self motivated individual interested in working to improve storm water quality in Baltimore City.  

The City has recently created an Environmental Sub-Cabinet that develops and coordinates City policies and programs to improve the environmental performance of City operations within a sustainable framework.  As staff to this body, the Office of Sustainability is coordinating with the Department of Public Works and watershed organizations to update and improve policies and regulations and to develop new programs for water quality improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research of best management practices in other jurisdictions related to sustainable water resources plans.
  • Coordinate with multiple agencies to review existing City codes/policies to identify key impediments to environmentally friendly practices
  • Assist in populating water quality data base information
  • Work with watershed organizations to identify synergies and opportunities
  • Network with organizations and cities doing similar work
  • Draft policy proposals
  • Present findings and recommendations to officials both inside and outside City government

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of stormwater quality issues and regulations
  • Commitment of at least 15/hours a week
  • Adept researcher
  • Effective communicator
  • Well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player
  • Ability to creatively solve problems
  • Desire to make Baltimore a national leader in sustainable water quality issues
