Interested in wildfires?  Curious about fire and natural resources management?  Want to learn skills and earn valuable certifications?

The Wildfire Protection Team will engage in hazardous fuels reduction projects to help protect the rural mountain community of Trout Lake, WA from wildfire. The team is funded through a National Fire Plan Grant and will focus primarily on removing small diameter tress and woody material with power and hand tools.

Gain knowledge and exposure to:

  • Forestry
  • Pacific Northwest tree identification
  • Wildfire Awareness
  • Chainsaws and specialized tools
  • Wildlife

The team will also educate the public about its project during community events, such as the Trout Lake Fair and Fish Education day.  Throughout the season, the team will have the opportunity to network with agency professionals and community members. 

The team will live and work out of the Mt. Adams Center in Trout Lake and commute to the service sites on a daily basis. Trout Lake is located at the base of 12,320' Mt. Adams in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. This mountain town offers a variety of recreation for ‘off' days, such as hiking, biking, caving, fishing and white water boating.

Service Dates: May 19, 2008 - October 24, 2008
