Position Overview
NRG is seeking to hire an entry-level environmental consultant to join our fast growing Charlotte office. This is a career track opportunity for a qualified individual with interest in providing technical project support to the environmental permitting efforts on energy-related capitol development projects and related operational compliance initiatives - varying from small and large scale energy projects located in the southeastern region as well as throughout the greater U.S.
Summary of Job Responsibilities
The primary role of this entry-level position involves project technical support under the direction of internal project and/or task managers.
Primary tasks include the review and interpretation of environmental regulations as they relate to the development and operations of energy facilities; assisting in the preparation (i.e., researching and writing) of various technical environmental documents (e.g., environmental resource reports; EA's; EIS's; and other federal, state and local permit applications), and report production and deliverables.
Responsibilities also include supporting the work coordination of subconsultants conducting field surveys, including the schedule of work deliverables to ensure work is done correctly, on time, and within budget; and reviewing field survey data to ensure data collection is accurate and consistent.
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the minimum of a B.S. in one of the natural sciences, demonstrate good organizational skills, exhibit strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and be self-motivated.
Candidates with internship/work experience gained specifically in the areas of wildlife, vegetation, soils and/or land use will be more strongly considered. Knowledge of the southeastern U.S. environmental regulatory regulations and a familiarity with using GPS equipment is a plus.
The ideal candidate would hold a strong interest in the areas of environmental regulations, wetlands, vegetation, and/or protected species. Additionally, the position will require a person accustomed to working both independently and as part of a project team. Solid candidates will demonstrate experience in successfully managing varying priorities and tasks of multiple projects concurrently under the direction of multiple people.
This position may require some travel (less than 20%). Solid computer skills, including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
