Environmental Technologies and Sustainable Practices
Environmental Technologies with a Focus on Alternative Energy Faculty will develop, teach and assess courses in Environmental Technologies with a focus on Alternative Energy, while assisting in the development of new courses.
This is a lead position in a new professional/technical discipline in which the college has initiated an AAS-T degree. Teaching duties may include classes such as Introduction to Environmental Technology, and the selected faculty member will teach both transfer and professional/technical courses. The Environmental Technologies with a focus on Alternative Energy faculty will contribute to the development, implementation and enhancement of Cascadia's curriculum and course of study in Environmental Technologies with a focus on Alternative Energy. This will include program development at the degree, certificate and course levels.
Responsibilities:
Advising students and collaborating with other colleges and universities to create a rich variety of educational experiences and opportunities for students.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher in Physics, Engineering, Environmental Science, Architecture, Urban Planning, Sustainable Development, Energy and Resources, the physical sciences, or a related field.
- A minimum of one year of successful full-time or equivalent part-time teaching experience.
- Washington state vocational certificate OR experience and training to qualify for vocational certification. This requires two years of recent (within the past 5 years) professional work experience in a field directly related to energy, power, alternative energy, green practices, or sustainability; or two years experience in the field beyond the training period and continuous teaching in those areas with recent re-exposure to industry.
- Current Industrial First Aid/CPR or willingness to acquire certification prior to teaching. Currency in this is an ongoing requirement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coursework, experience and/or teaching experience in applied physics, energy, alternative energy, sustainable practices, LEED related systems work (Green Building), photovoltaics, electricity, and/or power generation.
- Program Leadership Experience
- Experience developing and teaching online courses and using technology to support learning
- Experience with non-traditional teaching methods and collaborative learning
- Demonstrated experience in globalizing the curriculum
- Experience designing innovative assessment techniques and strategies for classroom assessment
