Position Overview:

The position of Program Coordinator for CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Purchasing involves working directly with Starbucks' responsible green coffee purchasing program known as Coffee and Farmer Equity (C.A.F.E.) Practices, as well as other company specific responsible purchasing programs.

* daily email and telephone communications with third-party auditing organizations who conduct C.A.F.E. Practices inspections in Latin America, East Africa and Asia Pacific;
* daily email and telephone communications with Starbucks' personnel stationed in Seattle and Costa Rica offices;
* an ongoing support and review function for the web-based reporting system utilized by Starbucks and SCS for third-party reporting in the program;
* planning of audits for the SCS Program Manager and Regional Associate Auditors;
* preparation of written guidance updates, letters, and audit reports for distribution to C.A.F.E. Practices auditing organizations and Starbucks;
* preparation of expense reports for the SCS Program Manager and invoices for clients;
* development and editing of relevant program materials;
* filing and photocopying responsibilities;
* data entry and management of information in the SCS FileMaker Pro database system.

In addition, the Program Coordinator will work with the Program Manager to develop responsible purchasing projects, ethical trade initiatives, and CSR strategies for existing and prospective clients dependent on sourcing agricultural products and manufactured goods, as well as clients offering services and expertise, both internationally and domestically.

Responsibilities:

* Work collaboratively with the Program Manager to support and oversee the C.A.F.E. Practices web-based reporting system.
* Handle communications between SCS, third-party auditing organizations, and Starbucks.
* Prepare audit plans and organize itineraries for the Program Manager and Regional Associate Auditors.
* Prepare expense reports and review invoices on behalf of the Program Manager.
* Assist with writing program guidance updates, audit reports, and letters as needed. " Manage data entry for all programmatic related transactions.
* Work collaboratively with the Program Manager to develop responsible purchasing programs and CSR strategies for new and prospective clients.
* Develop and edit relevant program materials.
* Research third-party initiatives and internal purchasing programs and prepare summary reports for the Program Manager.

Qualifications:

* Minimum 1-2 years work experience in relevant applied social and/or environmental fields. Graduate degrees in relevant disciplines will be considered equivalent to applied work experience. 
* Minimum undergraduate BA or BS degree in relevant discipline. Applicants with relevant graduate degrees preferred.
* Strong organizational, writing, presentation and verbal communication skills are required. 
* Initiative and ability to work independently; responsive and adaptive personality.
* Proficiency or fluency in Spanish essential; applicant with working knowledge of French preferred.
* Excellent computer skills are essential. Experience working with Outlook, FileMaker Pro, and other database management systems preferred.
* strong understanding of CSR programs and reporting, third-party certification initiatives,
* ideally, working knowledge of French, overseas work or study experience, applied experience in the cocoa and coffee industry, and/or applied experience working with agricultural or manufacturing production systems.
* adept at handling complex and varied tasks,
* understand the importance of customer service,
* proven track record of completing projects in a timely manner.

The Program Coordinator works out of SCS's main office in Emeryville, California and reports directly to the Program Manager for CSR Purchasing, Nathan Smith.

Compensation: The Program Coordinator is an entry level position at SCS. Compensation is based on qualifications and prior experience, with an anticipated starting salary in the range of $40k with opportunities for growth. SCS offers a competitive benefits package including vacation, health, dental, and 401K.
