Internship Summary: 

QUEST is a new local KQED cross-platform science, environment and nature project, launched in February 2007. The series explores exciting Bay Area developments in science, technology and the environment, generating exclusive content through each of its media platforms. The first season of "QUEST" features 40 TV stories, shot in High-Definition, approximately 50 radio segments, a comprehensive series of educator resources, and a robust web site with original, interactive content. KQED QUEST, in partnership with 12 Bay Area science, environment and nature organizations, works to introduce our audiences to discoveries in their own backyards through an innovative multi-platform collaboration.

QUEST is seeking content interns, who will work under the supervision of the Content Coordinator, QUEST, to help the QUEST TV, Radio and Interactive (Web) team. This is a unique internship at KQED, where the intern will support and learn about three different platforms - TV, radio and web.

Each intern must be able to work 16 hours a week, on a regularly established schedule. All internships are unpaid, and the intern must be a currently enrolled student and receive proof of course credit for the internship.

The interns must also be able to work under deadline in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and seamlessly switch across media platforms. Interns should also demonstrate an interest in science, technology and environmental issues along with strong research skills and an interest in broadcast or new media. 

Internship Duties:  

- Researches story ideas and features for QUEST TV and Radio platforms
- Research web features and tools for Interactive projects.
- Assists Content Coordinator to organize and manage database content and intranet communications.
- Assists Content Coordinator to archive files, notes and materials associated with QUEST content.
- Assists Content Coordinator to process incoming press releases, newsletters and other materials from science organizations.
- Logs tapes and transcribes interviews from field shoots.
- Attends editorial meetings, if internship schedule permits.
- Accompanies segment producers on shoots, if needed.
- Helps with some clerical tasks as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned. 

Internship Qualifications:  

- Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.
- Strong interest in the sciences, technology and environmental issues.
- Strong research skills and the ability to organize data and information.
- Passion for public broadcasting and/or content
- Some experience with any of the three platforms - radio or TV broadcast, or web production.
- Familiarity with databases, FileMakerPro and Web tools/applications like "tags", "blogs", "wikis" recommended.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and research skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt from project-to-project.
- Ability to interface cross-platform to assist Interactive (Web), Radio, and TV staff, as assigned.
- Highly motivated.
