WRI's Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) team seeks a highly motivated individual with excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills for a full-time Research Analyst position. The Research Analyst will provide research and project management support to the GHG Protocol team at the World Resources Institute in Washington, DC.

The GHG Protocol  is the most widely used international accounting tool for government and business leaders to understand, quantify, and manage greenhouse gas emissions. The GHG Protocol Initiative, a decade-long partnership between the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, is working with businesses, governments, and environmental groups around the world to build a new generation of credible and effective programs for tackling climate change. 

Major responsibilities: 

The Research Analyst will work closely with GHG Protocol team members on several research and project management activities, which may include: 

* Contributing to the design and management of GHG programs in India to assist Indian companies to account and report emissions and set and achieve GHG reduction targets.
* Developing curriculum for a series of courses on GHG accounting, reporting and management.
* Supporting the implementation of GHG accounting and reporting programs in Brazil, Mexico, and/or the Philippines.
* Researching and writing case studies on the application of GHG Protocol methodologies in industry and government.
* Drafting and processing proposals, budgets, grant reports and contracts. 

Qualifications: 

* Masters degree, or bachelor's degree plus two years' experience, in a relevant field(environmental science, policy, engineering, etc.).
* Familiarity with and demonstrated interest in climate change issues, particularly in a business and/or policy context.
* Strong research and analytical skills.
* Project management experience.
* Excellent written and oral communications skills in English.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other everyday computer applications.
* Ability to self-motivate, stay organized, and work both independently and as part of a team.
* Availability to travel. 

Highly Desirable: 

* Knowledge of GHG Protocol standards and tools.
* Understanding of GHG emission trading.
* Prior experience conducting case studies and/or developing educational materials.
* Knowledge of a second language (especially Portuguese, Spanish, or Chinese).
* International experience, particularly in developing countries. 

Salary commensurate with experience. 

This is a full-time, one-year, fixed-term position to begin in fall 2007, with the possibility of extension depending on performance, funding, and program needs.
