The Climate Trust, a quickly growing non-profit based in Portland, OR, is a national leader in the development and promotion of high quality greenhouse gas offset projects. The Climate Trust is seeking a highly motivated individual to be a key part of a team that identifies, evaluates, funds and manages innovative projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Position Overview:
The Offset Project Analyst will be a key contributor to the Climate Trust's efforts to support the development of the greenhouse gas offset market. This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative climate change solutions in a highly energetic, collaborative, and congenial atmosphere.
Major Responsibilities:
This position will work with the Offset Portfolio team on acquiring and managing greenhouse gas offset projects. We are seeking an individual with a strong interest in the rapidly growing greenhouse gas offset market.
Offset Project Development
- Review and evaluate greenhouse gas offset project proposals.
- Conduct due diligence on proposing organizations.
- Prepare briefing documents for staff, committees and partners.
- Work with the Offset Portfolio team to negotiate Emission Reduction Purchase Agreements with offset project developers.
- Stay abreast of developments in the U.S. offset market.
Contract Management
- Support the Offset Portfolio team in the preparation of monitoring and verification plans for offset projects.
- Support the Offset Portfolio team with management of the Climate Trust's existing project portfolio, including tracking offset projects, communicating with offset developers, developing contract amendments, etc.
Consulting
- Provide support to a variety of consulting projects; includes research, data analysis, and report preparation.
Qualifications:
Required
- Experience with energy efficiency, renewable energy, transportation efficiency or other greenhouse gas reduction project types.
- General knowledge of climate change policy, economics, and science.
- Excellent writing and research skills.
- Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, business, public policy, pre-law or related discipline, and at least two years experience in relevant field.
Preferred
- Experience with greenhouse gas offset projects.
- Experience with the carbon market.
- Experience with contract negotiations or legal writing.
- Masters degree in relevant field.
Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with experience. The starting salary range for this position is between $30,000 and $40,000. The Climate Trust offers a very strong benefits package, including a "cafeteria" medical, dental and vision plan; three weeks vacation; flexible work hours; a 401K plan; and a bus/bike incentive program.
