ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability U.S.A., a non-profit membership association of local governments working to achieve climate protection and other sustainable development goals, seeks a dynamic and talented Senior Development Officer to develop and execute fundraising strategy. This position will be based in ICLEI's downtown Oakland, CA office.
In collaboration with ICLEI, over 280 local governments across the United States and hundreds more around the world have made commitments and taken significant action to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Participating local governments agree to conduct baseline analyses of greenhouse gas emissions and to develop and implement plans to meet their GHG emission reduction targets. ICLEI staff works closely with these local governments, providing policy and technical assistance, training, software, and other tools to help them achieve their emissions reduction goals.
The hiring salary range for this position is $50,000 - $60,000. Placement is based on the ICLEI U.S.A. salary scale for program managers, commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, regular position with an excellent benefits package and upward potential. The Development Officer will report directly to the Deputy Director.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
- Passionate commitment to help ICLEI's programs, its mission and key issue areas
- Bachelor's Degree
- At least three years of fundraising or professional sales experience
- Strong interpersonal skills, experience with high-powered donors or decision-makers desired
- Entrepreneurial attitude
- Self-starter capable of working both independently and in groups
- Comfortable working in a very flexible, unstructured setting
- Excellent communication skills
- Budgeting and planning abilities
- Prior experience in high-tech industry or online marketing desirable
- Develop and execute fundraising strategy in coordination with Executive Director and Deputy Director
Position Responsibilities:
- Manage the development of grant requests, LOIs, and reports to both private foundations and government grantmaking institutions at the state and federal level, and insure that we are meeting all reporting deadlines
- Maintain calendar of funding opportunities (upcoming dockets), reports due on grants, etc.
- Provide writing support and quality control in the development of all grant proposals, LOIs, and reports.
- Identify funding opportunities from Federal and government grant making institutions
- Work with Regional Campaign Centers (RCC) Directors to identify & pursue new sources of funding in their region from private foundations and appropriate corporate and individual donors
- Work with Executive Director, Deputy Director, and RCC Directors, to identify new private foundations to support ICLEI program work
- Provide regular updates on ICLEI and member to private foundation officers and major donors
