This position is offered in Apple's Environmental Technologies department in Hardware Engineering. Our mission is to deliver the worlds leading programs on the elimination of hazardous substances, improved material and energy efficiency as well as design for disassembly and recycling. Apple believes that the major improvements in environmental performance will be delivered through product design and innovation.

Position Overview:

The role will encompass product team level responsibilities as well as corporate strategic and policy planning activities. At a product level, the candidate will be responsible for the implementation of product environmental performance as an active participant in Apple's product development processes:

  • Guiding design engineers with life-cycle driven materials selection criteria    
  • Validating compliance and driving teams towards internal energy efficiency standards  
  • Program managing design requirements impacting products and packaging    
  • Coordinate product testing with cross functional teams, external suppliers, and external labs to validate compliance with substance restriction regulations  
  • Support engineering teams, operations groups, and external suppliers on technical issues relating to product environmental compliance   
  • Assure conformance of products with global environmental regulations and standards  
  • Provide guidance on the latest design for environment strategies with emphasis on ease of disassembly, reuse, recycling and safe disposal

Skills and Experience:

  • A Master's degree in chemical or material engineering or chemistry with environmental experience is preferred.  
  • Technical knowledge of components, materials and processes used in the electronics industry would be distinct advantage.  
  • Background experience in monitoring and implementing environmental policies impacting the electronics sector would be a distinct advantage, particularly relating to substance restrictions, product take-back and energy efficiency   
  • Excellent project management and communication skills

The successful candidate must be able to work independently and be a self-starter. Energetic personality with very good communication skills and an entrepreneurial mind set required.
