Description
TransitWorks is a not-for-profit collaborative initiative, which joins the business community, Boston region cities and towns, and other transportation interests such as Transportation Management Associations (TMAs). A Better City (ABC, formerly the Artery Business Committee), the ABC TMA and the MBTA Advisory Board form the partnership that guides TransitWorks' activities to improve and promote public transit in the Boston region.
TransitWorks uses customer outreach and feedback activities, such as surveys and focus groups, to help the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) improve their quality of service.
Job Overview:
The Program Manager coordinates all aspects of TransitWorks' operations, research, reporting, vision-setting, fundraising, budgeting, volunteer recruitment, communications, advocacy and outreach. The Program Manager works closely with a Steering Committee and a larger pool of volunteers to gauge transit customer satisfaction and priorities.
Requirements:
This position requires energy, dedication and an ability to perform high quality work. The workload varies from high-pressure time constraints to slower periods where work on longer-term projects may be achieved. Organizing and training volunteers, conducting surveys and compiling & analyzing data are major components of this position. Working effectively with the general public and public agencies is paramount to the success of the organization.
The Program Manager will:
- Coordinate the day-to-day administration and operation of TransitWorks
- Devise and implement programs geared towards collecting MBTA rider feedback through surveys, evaluations, and focus groups
- Compile survey findings, extrapolate survey data, and report findings to the Steering Committee and the MBTA
- Build working relationships with MBTA personnel and Steering Committee members
- Train and organize volunteers in conducting surveys of the MBTA system
- Plan, develop, and implement marketing initiatives and promotional events to raise awareness of the organization and transit
- Develop and distribute all promotional materials, such as the website and newsletter
- Provide quarterly updates to the Steering Committee
- Manage all budgetary and fundraising activities, including writing grant proposals and related funding research
- Represent TransitWorks in the community-at-large and on professional boards and committees
The successful candidate will be:
- Enthusiastic, customer service oriented and willing to perform a variety of tasks
- Able to work independently on long-term projects with minimal daily supervision
- Willing to learn new skills
- Well-organized, efficient and able to balance several on-going projects
Education, Skills and Experience:
- Strong writing and public speaking skills critical
- Strong analytic skills critical
- A Master's degree in a related field (urban or regional planning; non-profit or business management; public administration) preferred
- Organizational development experience
- Strong computer skill critical. Experience with Dreamweaver and the Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Access, and Publisher) desired
- Experience conducting surveys or focus groups desired
- Experience working with volunteers desired
Hours/Salary:
- 40 hours/week
- Low to mid forties, based on experience
