Founded in 2003, Better World Books has expanded in four short years from a simple university book drive to a nationwide effort, saving books from landfills and raising money for literacy through the resale of used books.
We are currently running book drives with bookstores and students at nearly 1,000 colleges and universities across North America, as well as working with over 700 libraries across the United States.

Duties And Responsibilites:
Looking for a Web Developer to work on a major e-commerce site. Duties include customizing an off-the-shelf ASP.NET application and developing new modules and components. The developer will be responsible for integrating new designs into a working web application with CSS and HTML. Future work may involve web services, AJAX, and indexing & search technologies. Responsibilities also include administering existing web servers and setting up new servers for a scalable, reliable, and secure environment.
The ideal candidate will be a person who can work well as part of a team, has a great work ethic, and is willing to learn new things to enhance their technical education. They enjoy seeing projects through to completion, and make sure all the little details are done right. They will fit in well in the young, fun, relaxed atmosphere of Better World Books. A good sense of humor is also important!
Job Skills:
- Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field.
- 3+ years ASP.NET experience with VB.NET and/or C#: User controls, Classes and layer separation, Visual Studio .NET
- Preferably 5+ years in general web technologies.
- XHTML / HTML
- JavaScript, AJAX preferred
- CSS
- Windows Server 2003, Microsoft IIS, and DNS administration preferred
- Web Services (plus)
- Experience with SQL Server 2000/2005 (preferred): Enterprise Manager, Query Analyzer, Writing complex SQL (multiple joins), Transact-SQL (T-SQL), Stored procedures, triggers, functions, indexes, full-text catalogs are a plus
- This job requires you have a permit to work in the US, such as Green Card or US Citizenship
About the Job:
The developer will report to the Chief Technology Officer, and work closely with a lead developer and several other developers. Salary range is negotiable, and the employee will be eligible for full benefits (health, dental, life, 401(k)) after 90 days.
