Description

The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 9,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking a Green Building Technical Advisor with experience successfully applying LEED to building projects.

This Green Building Technical Advisor will be hired as a consultant to work in New Orleans, Louisiana, supporting reconstruction initiatives, working closely with the New Orleans Office of Recovery Management's (ORM's) Resources Development, Resettlement, Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Management Department and with the local Louisiana Chapter of USGBC.

This consultant will provide guidance on all LEED-relevant programs related to city buildings, neighborhoods and other structures within the legal control of city entities to achieve LEED certification to the extent practicable, including:

  • Green building strategies for city buildings.
  • Locally-appropriate incentives and educational programs encouraging LEED certification among private sector projects and public schools.
  • Development of local market capacity to design, construct, and operate green buildings.
The consultant will not be responsible for specific project-related task such as the preparation of LEED documentation. In all activities, the consultant will work in close collaboration with the local Louisiana Chapter of USGBC, particularly as related to educational and training opportunities to develop local capacity.

Success will be measured by growth in local green building expertise, and integration of green building practices including LEED certification in new construction, renovation, and the operation of existing buildings in New Orleans.

Project term: Full-time for a period of one year, with the possibility of contract renewal.

Qualifications:

Masters (preferred) degree in architecture or urban planning with strong environmental planning experience in the private sector and 5 years of work experience. Must be a LEED Accredited Professional with experience in at least 2 LEED certified projects. Consultant should be highly collaborative, organized, solutions-oriented, and focused on delivering concrete results for the New Orleans community. Knowledge of New Orleans architecture is preferred.

Note: This is a consultancy, not a position of direct employment with the U.S. Green Building Council. Accordingly, this position will be stationed in Louisiana, not in USGBC's Washington, DC headquarters; additionally, this consultancy is not eligible for USGBC employee benefits.
