The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 9,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently recruiting for a Manager of Chapter Services to work with its Chapter team members to oversee the daily operations of the USGBC Chapter Program and further increase the chapter network's capacity to be self-supportive and to act as the local USGBC presence. 

This position supervises 3 staff members, manages outgoing communications, coordinates chapter events and trainings, assists chapter leaders with building chapter capacity and serving their communities, and works with departments throughout the organization to collect and distribute information that impacts chapters. Also, as a member of the chapter account executive team, this position works with his/her assigned regions and their respective chapters to ensure their continued development and to communicate the latest developments at the national level. Specific Responsibilities Include: 

  • Co-manage daily operations of the Chapter Program. 
  • Provide input on the department's annual budget and plan. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with USGBC chapter leaders and staff. 
  • Work with assigned chapter leader groups/committees to develop their meeting agendas, goals for the year, etc. 
  • Act as an account executive for 2-3 Regional Councils and the chapters within the regions, including: 

    • Serve as a problem resolution resource 
    • Direct chapter leaders and staff towards resources that will aid them in their growth and development 
    • Provide national updates 
    • Deliver an outstanding customer experience

     

  • Assist with developing metrics and surveys to gauge the program's effectiveness and the developmental stage of each chapter; work with the Director of Community to develop action plans based on results 
  • Plan and coordinate chapter-related events (including chapter events at USGBC's annual Greenbuild Conference as well as committee meetings, Regional Council meetings, chapter trainings, etc.). 
  • Manage all outgoing chapter communications including the monthly chapter newsletter and Hot Topics e-mail in addition to other leader-oriented communications.
Related Organizational Goals and Objectives:
  • Build the capacity of chapters to act as the local representation of USGBC and to: 
  • Support chapters and EGB in the development of local educational programs 
  • Strengthen the effectiveness of USGBC chapters 
  • Enhance local advocacy efforts through local chapters
Qualifications/Skills:
  • 5-6 years experience 
  • Excellent team player with outstanding interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent communications skills (both verbal and written) 
  • Ability to multi-task and to problem solve diverse issues 
  • Ability to think strategically 
  • Non-profit and chapter relations experience 
  • Experience with volunteer management 
  • Event planning experience, a plus 
  • Ability and willingness to travel 
  • Commitment to USGBC mission
