The Green Building Alliance is a nonprofit that integrates environmentally responsible and high performance construction  and operating practices into the Greater Pittsburgh market.

Overview of Job:

The Education Manager has direct responsibility for establishing, conducting, analyzing and reporting on all Green Building Alliance programming activity, including regularly scheduled tours and the annual Green$ense regional conference. In addition, the Education Manager is responsible for maintaining GBA's relationship with its geographic Networks and other professional organizations regionally and nationally, including the U.S. Green Building Council. The Education Manager is further responsible for overseeing GBA's Membership Program and for establishing and driving a successful annual Sponsorship Program for GBA. This position reports to the Deputy Director.

Duties to be Performed:

1. Manage GBA Education Program development, promotion, delivery and evaluation

* Collaborate with other GBA program areas to identify annual priorities and constituencies for program delivery 
* Shape the program - identifying appropriate content and needs of stakeholders - communicating with various constituencies and stakeholders
* Recruit speakers and establish calendar of events
* Promote and run events, meeting attendance targets
* Conduct post-event reporting and analysis

2. Manage development and delivery of GBA annual conference, Green$ense

* Manage all aspects of conference development, content, promotions and budget 
* Execute a profitable event for GBA
* Meet target growth goals for Green$ense

3. Coordinate customized project presentations and training: Develop GBA practices and policies for providing fee-based training within GBA's service area

4. Deliver presentations and coordinate all GBA speaking requests and speakers bureau needs

* Serve as "intake point" for all speaking requests received by GBA, except national-level requests
* Establish systems for reviewing all requests with Executive Director to determine best fielding and fulfillment
* Maintain system for tracking all presentations for GBA metrics 
* Personally deliver green building presentations to general public and constituencies

5. Manage GBA Membership Program 

* Create Membership Program annual plan to meet annual membership growth targets
* Identify and implement all systems needed to appropriately support and grow a Membership Program
* Conduct annual campaigns to recruit members 
* Determine and execute appropriate communications and events to heighten value and perceived value of membership
* Champion the Membership Program within GBA staff, ensuring that other programmatic areas take into consideration and create Membership Program opportunities
* Collaborate with Deputy Director and Office Coordinator in relation to GBA contact database and its use in relation to Membership

6. Manage GBA Sponsorship Program
* Create annual Sponsorship Program plan to meet underwriting and growth targets
* Develop supporting materials and coordinate with GBA Board members to conduct sponsorship solicitations. 
* Directly identify, solicit, and recruit potential GBA sponsors
* Coordinate with GBA colleagues to identify potential sponsors among the constituencies with which they interact, and provide support in closing the sponsorship recruit

7. Provide strategic direction and management of the geographic networks of GBA

* Serve as primary liaison point for GBA main office with its two geographic networks * Provide guidance to Network Steering Committees and coordinate GBA office resources for Networks as necessary.
* Engage in regular, ongoing communications with Networks, including conducting semi-monthly conference calls, alternating with semi-monthly face-to-face visits
* Work with Network Steering Committee chairpersons to ensure that annual commitments and requirements are met, including signing of MOUs, annual budgeting, end-of-year reporting, etc.
* Champion the Networks among GBA staff, ensuring that other programmatic areas take Networks into consideration in their activity and organizational structures, such as the database, website, and all other GBA operations
* Assist the Steering Committees in growing GBA membership constituencies in their regions

8. Manage GBA's relationships with specific key organizations

* Manage relationships with all education partners for GBA and non-GBA programs
* Manage relationships and agreements with appropriate statewide and national programs, including USGBC and LEED programs
* Serve as GBA representative at USGBC Chapter/Affiliate-related activities and events

9. Manage one direct-reporting staff member, the Membership & Events Coordinator

Required Experience, Education & Certifications

* LEED AP professional accreditation required within three months of hire.
* Working knowledge of LEED system required for consideration.
* Undergraduate and Master's degrees in relevant area of study, such as environmental sustainability, architecture, etc.
* Minimum of five years of professional experience required. 
* Previous experience organizing events required.
* Strong public speaker.
* Organized project manager.
* Experience building relationships with various constituencies.
* Experience managing direct-reporting staff.
* Able to readily engage with others, establish positive interactions and create goodwill with others within and outside of GBA.
* Work experience and skills relevant to the duties to be performed.
* Highly organized and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Attentive to detail.
* Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, are required.
* Positive attitude, willingness to take on tasks and function as team player.
* Flexibility to accommodate short-notice changes, revisions and occasionally busy environment with multiple demands and deadlines without becoming flustered.
* Able to establish and maintain clear, concise, thorough records.

General Requirements:  Able to regularly travel regionally and, on occasion, nationally. Willing and able to use own vehicle on company business. Able to climb three flights of stairs on a daily basis. Able to lift up to 30 pounds.
