The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 8,000 corporate and organizational members that is dedicated to promoting environmentally-responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work, is currently seeking an energetic and organized individual with strong "people skills" to support a fast-growing, nationwide chapter network through regular communications with chapter leaders regarding various technical and administrative issues as well as emerging growth opportunities that will help advance each local chapter. 

 

In addition, the Community Associate will assist with various chapter-related projects and tasks. The Community Assistant will also support a busy Member Services Department which will include responding in a timely, professional and courteous manner to customer inquiries and requests, as well as referring inquiries to appropriate sources for resolution, and following issues through to completion. 

Chapter-related Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing chapters while responding to inquiries 
  • Help to provide and explain available resources for chapter leaders 
  • Act as an account executive to two Regional Councils and their chapters 
  • Work with USGBC Membership staff to streamline customer service inquiries 
  • Assist with planning of leadership meetings 
  • Help chapters maintain membership databases 
  • Manage chapter Web sites 
  • Maintain listservs for chapters 
  • Coordinate requests for chapter's exhibit booth 
  • Provide materials to chapters upon request 
  • Coordinate with LEED staff to keep chapters informed when projects are certified in their area
Member Services-related Responsibilities:
  • Provide timely and courteous customer service for USGBC's growing number of customer transactions via email and phone. 
  • Process member renewal checks and new membership applications through SAP database system 
  • Print, assemble and mail regular membership mailings such as new member packets and renewal invoices. 
  • Maintain membership records in organized filing system. 
  • Other related tasks as assigned
Related Organizational Goals and Objectives: Chapters:
  • Collaborate with other departments to maintain and deliver highest level of customer service. 
  • Streamline chapter processes that overlap with other departments. 
  • Create opportunities for encouraging the development of the chapter program through other USGBC programs. 
  • Establish and maintain tools and information for USGBC staff to understand chapter activities and share with their customers as appropriate.
Related Organizational Goals and Objectives: Member Services:
  • Retain, increase and diversify the membership 
  • Increase the participation of member organizations 
  • Strengthen the effectiveness of the USGBC
Qualifications/Skills:
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferably, one year of customer service experience) 
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint 
  • General understanding of relational databases. (e.g., Access) (familiarity with SAP software preferred but not essential) 
  • Website maintenance experience a plus 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Detail-oriented, well organized, and ability to multi-task 
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills; relationship building focus 
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills for responding to customer inquiries and requests in a professional, responsible and courteous manner
